EQUIPMENT
Tri-Plex Pump with new pistons

SERVICE
Sludge; ambient temperature; 150 psi; 120 fpm.
Pump used to pump out sludge from settling tank.

PROBLEM
Product leakage, worn pistons and constant gland adjustments using
rubber and fabric V rings from Garlock. Rings absorbed product
causing them to lose resilience and become abrasive.

SOLUTION
Installed Style 1710 packing, .750 cross section.
Seven rings of skive cut packing installed with offset cuts and each ring
properly seated.

PERFORMANCE
Virtually no leakage and pistons show little sign of wear. Approximately
two years between repacks.
