INDUSTRY
Metals Processing
EQUIPMENT
An old Carbide Crusher (product top entry), plain bearings, vibration
SERVICE
Dry carbide powder; 180° F; 5 psi; 60 RPM; 50 fpm.
Manufactured carbide pieces are crushed into powder form.
PROBLEM
Needed a packing that could seal hot, dry abrasive product and stay
pliable and not destroy shaft. Previously used competitor's packing
would dry out and become impregnated with product, damaging the
shaft and leaking after four weeks.
SOLUTION
Installed 1710 packing .625 square. Because it is sealing a dry product
under air pressure, a skive cut joint is used making sure to seat each
ring and stagger the joints.
PERFORMANCE
1710 lasted thirteen months with almost no sign of wear to equipment.
RESULTS -
1710 lasted thirteen months with almost no sign of wear to equipment.
