The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of the classic novels I have read, and it is the greatest novel by

oscar wilde, as it is an excellent literature study on narcissism, hedonism, self-centered pleasure and
insecurity of people, caused by the negative influence of immoral people. Oscar wilde’s cleverly uses
the characters in the novel to describe the interactions between morally honest but naive individuals
and modern hedonistic societies. Wilde uses Lord Henry Wotton's character as a metaphor for a
hypocritical society, Henry's character claims he values moral honesty but in reality, it's not like that.
Dorian Gray character is potray from a naïve person with a soft heart to a cruel and materialistic
person.

The part that I love the most is Henry and Dorian Gray's conversation. Henry's unconventional and
‘toxic’ theory is very interesting. Another character like Basil, the innocent and loving painter, is
Wilde's way of seeing himself. And in my opinion there are some flaws. for example. While nearly
every character in a novel has a backstory, not all backstories are fully developed. Much remains for
the reader to make guesses. However, it would be great to gain more insight into Sybil Vane's state
of mind prior to meeting Dorian, or the original dish on Alan Campbell's "secret notes" in Chapter 14,
which still amazing for me.
