Artificial intelligence has the power to change society. This algorithm is able to detect terrorist propaganda online
with a 94% success rate, perhaps a vital tool in countering radicalization.

Despite positive breakthroughs, there are potential dangers with A.I., according to a new report.

Automated hacking is identified as one of the most imminent applications of A.I, especially so-called phishing
attacks.

(scientist) “So you can model someone’s topics of interest or preferences, their writing style, the writing style of a
close friend, and have a machine automatically create a message that looks a lot like something you would click
on.”

Programmers from the University of Washington, last year, built an A.I. algorithm to create a fake video of Barack
Obama, allowing them to put any words into the former’s President’s mouth.

A.I. use in warfare is widely seen as one of the most disturbing possibilities, with so-called killer robots and decision-
making taken out of the hands of humans.

There is also the danger of A.I. being used in mass surveillance, especially by oppressive regimes.

The report also stressed the many positive applications of A.I., but they hope many of the potential dangers can be
preempted and say A.I. itself will likely provide many of the solutions.
