Characteristic Features

MADRASAH: is the Arabic word for any type of educational institution, whether secular or religious (of any
religion), and whether a school, college or university.

It is a Collegiate Mosque containing lecture Halls , Library, Residences for students and teachers in
addition to the Mosque for prayer.

RAUZA: It is a large mausoleum which also introduces a Mosque as a separate Building. It is contained
within a spacious square enclosure the entire forming an attractive garden called Rauza after Garden-
ar-Rauza in the Prophet’s Mosque at Medina.

The tomb or Kabristan consists of single compartment or huzrah and covered with a dome.The internal
Chamber is called “ Maqbarah” or “ Tehkhana” with the grave or “Qubr” in the centre.
DARGAH: There are tombs of nobles and occasionally called as Dargah in India
KHANS: These are the inns or Sarai's where traveller took rest. It is two storeyed Building-The ground floor
For stabling camels and first floor, for the residence of travellers.
