1. Determine the following for each of the data set:
Set A
A. Mean D. Standard Deviation of a Sample
22 + 21 + 4 + 8 + 9 + 10 + 51 + 16 = 14.9
8 Standard Deviation of a Population
= 141/8 = 14.0
= 17.6 E. Variance of a Sample
B. Range = 222.6
= 51- 4 Variance of a Population
= 47 = 194.7
C. Midrange
= 51+4
2
= 27.5

Set B
A. Mean 2
21 + 15 + 18 + 17 + 16 + 14 + 19 + = 17.5
20 D. Standard Deviation of a Sample
8 = 2.4
= 140/8 Standard Deviation of a Population
= 17.5 = 2.3
B. Range E. Variance of a Sample
= 21 - 14 =6
=7 Variance of a Population
C. Midrange = 5.3
= 21+ 14

2. Can we compare the two data sets in terms of the dispersion or spread of their
respective data? If so, which one has more variation in data? Explain your
answer.
-Yes, we can compare the two data sets in terms of dispersion. It is said that when a
data set has a large value, which in this problem is the Set A, it is widely scattered.
Whereas, when the data set has a small value, in this problem is Set B, it is tightly
clustered. With this, Set A has more variation in data. Using the standard deviation and
the range, we could also see that Set A has a greater value than those of Set B, proving
that Set A has more variation than Set B.
