Applications. The Schneider Senator 76 is a four-side trimming cutter designed specifically for smaller print shops, in-house print shops and bookbinders for trimming paper, plastics, rubber blocks/plates, board, veneers, card, film, foil, ete. 3. Construction. The clamping and cutting functions of the four- side trimming cutter are operated hydraulically, with the knife and clamping beam being moved by hydraulic rams via a coupling linkage. These com- ponents are mounted on the column frame, the geometry of which has been designed to absorb the forces generated during clamping and cutting. The machine is carried on its base structure, in which the hydraulic block is also suspended. The grooveless worktable with integrated back- gauge is located in the column frame to form one integral unit, The machine is covered by dyed, fibreglass-reintorced protective hoods. The ope- rating keyboard compiete with electronics system fits neatly into position under the hood. To one side at the front, convenient for servicing access, is the electrical switchbox, containing both the ‘operating electrics and electronic modules, 4. Machine Erection. Erection of the machine should be left to one of our after-sales service technicians 4.1. Corrosion-protected parts must be cleaned off using a suitable cleaning agent and greased or lubricated as required 4.2. The worktable is bolted into position on the machine frame on the installation site, using the accompanying bolts. 4.3. The machine is aligned with the aid of a spirit, level, ensuring precise levelling in both longitudi- nal and transverse planes. This levelling is carried out with the aid of the adjustable pedestal bolts and worktable base. 4.4. Footpedal (8) is pressed down under foot pressure, thus moving the clamping beam down into bottom working position. When the foot is removed from the pedal the clamping beam should return smoothly to rest position. If this does not happen the pedestal foot screws should be adjusted accordingly. When the final adjust- ments have been made to the feet the locknuts must be tightened home. 4.5. When table installation has been completed the electrical lines must be connected to their appropriate terminals. _SCHNEIDER SENATOR S076 6/1990 3 46. The backgauge with the finger gauge is moved from back position up to the front by tur- ning handwheel (6), which should turn easily to indicate that the table is not distorted. 4.7, Adjusting the Angle Cut. Slacken off the bolts under the table. The table can be swivelled in the desired direction by means of the adjusting bolt, setting to a right angle between the clamping beam and sidelay, after which the adjusting bolt is locked in position by locknut and the connecting bolt tightened home. 4.8. Electrical Connection. The machine is connected to mains supply sepa- rately and in compliance with the regulations of the power supply authority. The machine body (mass) must always be earthed! The rotational sense of the hydraulic unit drive motor must be checked. (The documenta- tion accompaying the machine includes the electrical wiring diagram and connection dia- gram), 5. Before Starting Up. 5.1. The machine is to be lubricated in accor- dance with the lubrication chart. 5.2. Hydraulic System. Using the filer aperture, fil the hydraulic reservoir up to the relevant mark on the dipstick, using 55 litres of hydraulic fluid (HLP) SO VG 6861-75 mm*/sec. (est}/40° C. 5.3. Bleeding the Hydraulic System. Alter the hydraulic pump has been switched on and the cut buttons have been actuated several times the hydraulic system is bled with the hydrau- lic rams. Ifthe cut knife remains sticking in the stock during the first cut, the relevant bleed screws on therams, should be opened slightly, after which the cutting sequence is repeated several times without using cutting stock. Initially an air/oll_ mixture will emerge from the aperture, but as soon as pure oil emerges tighten down the bleed screw. The rear guard covers must be removed for the purpose of bleeding 6. Switching on the Blower. Press the motor protection switch (rear side of switchbox). The blower supplies compressed air to the nozzles fitted in the machine worktable Alter it has been loaded into position the batch of, cutting stock should move easily on the resultant air cushion. 8. Switching off the Machine. When the operating sequence has been comple- ted the cut knife and clamping beam have returned to rest position and the backgauge is stationary. Only then should the machine be switched off in reverse sequence. 9. Safety Devices. 9.1. Emergency Off (1). The machine operating cycle is interrupted and the machine brought to an instantaneous halt by pressing the mushroom switch (1) 9.2, Light Barrier (12). The light barrier is an optional extra. If the light beam is disrupted during cutting, the clamping beam and cut knife come to an immediate halt Cutting can be resumed by releasing the cut but- tons (5) and pressing them again. 9.3. Cut Buttons. Two-hand operation with simultaneous switching (i.e, both cut buttons must be depressed within a half-second period) 10. Mechanical Cut Indicator. SCHNEIDER SENATOR sc76 6900 = § 12. Clamping Pressure Setting. ‘The foot pedal (8) is pressed to lower the clamping beam (11) onto the cutting stock. The cut edge is defined by the leading edge of the clamping beam. The clamping beam is held floating over the cut- ting stock by foot pressure on the pedal, thus allo- wing the cutting dimensions to be corrected by hand or motor power. 11. Optical Cut Indicator. Reversing switch (2) switches over from work- place lighting to the optical cut indicator. A fine light beam indicates the cutting line on the surface of the cutting stock The required clamping pressure can be adjusted by turning the handwheel (7). The degree of pres- sure is indicated on the graduated scale The clamping period canbe programmed up to 4,5 seconds in the operating sector according to the bulk of the cutting stock, 13. Function of the Four-Side Automatic Trimmer. — Clamping and Cutting — ‘Two-hand actuation (5) with simultaneous swit- ching requires simultaneous actuation of the cut buttons. The clamping beam (11) descends onto the cut: ting stock and compresses it according to the pre: set pre-clamping period. The cut knife (9) then descends. The cut buttons must be held down until the cut knife resumes its upward motion. If ‘one of the cut buttons is released as the cut knife is descending, both knife and clamping beam will stop. The cutting cycle Is resumed by pressing the cut buttons again After the cut has been completed the knife auto: matically returns to rest position. The clamping beam follows after an interval if it is not held in clamping position by operation of the foot pedal (8) ___ SCHNEIDER SENATOR sc76 6/100 6 14. Knife Changing. 14.2. Cutting with inadequate clamping pressure. RSS ‘As a consequence of inadequate clamping pres- sure the knife continues to press down on the cut- ting stock before actually cutting through it. oa Vil, After cutting is completed the top layers, which have been crimped over during the preceding cut, rise up again to form a ,mushroom' or undercut profile. 2. Cutting procedure with properly selected or adequate clamping pressure. Lie Selection of the correct clamping pressure pre- vents further compression of the top layers as the knife blade enters the pile. SCHNEIDER SENATOR Sc 7 6/1900 26 A clean, straight cut is the result. 3. Cutting with excessive clamping pressure. Excessive clamping pressure with hard, compact cutting stock deflects the knife outward. This results in the familiar ,overcut" profile, 42. Knife Grinding Angles.
