Lesson Objective(s) SWBAT use their lecture notes to recall important ideas for study and assessment, identify and explain the three character aspects and how to identify them within a story, and use google classroom for reflection and remediation. Materials Needed Writer’s notebooks, writing utensil, technology to connect to internet, link to PowerPoint.
Time Learning Task Methods or Procedures
20 Bellwork Greet students and answer questions while class responds to bellwork prompt in their writer’s notebooks. Ask students to unmute or write in the chat to share their favorite sentence from their bellwork and discuss the language used. Participation points and attendance are gathered during this time as well. 10 Brain challenge and learning Using the question on the PowerPoint, objectives give students time to figure out the brain challenge and respond in the chat. Discuss the answer as a whole class and explain the parts of speech included in the question.
Review the learning objectives for the
day to familiarize students with the information they will be learning. 30 Characterization lesson Asking students to take notes in the lecture section of their writer’s notebooks, thoroughly explain characterization and the three aspects of characterization. Students should have four definitions, as well as their own examples, written down. Ask students to type their own examples of each aspect in the chat box to conduct a whole class discussion. 20 Quizlet Students will follow the link to their usual Quizlet classroom where their vocabulary words are. Students will write down the words if they haven’t done so already, and then play the Match and Gravity games until they have a score they are satisfied with. Scores will be recorded only to see where students are at, but will not be added into the gradebook. 15 Individual grade check/work Students will be put into time individual/small group breakout rooms to allow for grade checks (teachers will jump into every room to check in and see if students have questions about grades) and give students time to work on their assignments. 10 Exit ticket and assignment on Students will log into CommonLit to CommonLit. find their reading assignment that they will have for homework. They will be instructed to take detailed notes.
Students will complete an exit ticket,
which is typing in their two favorite sentences from the bellwork into the chat.
