Lesson Week Reflection

1. What were the formative assessment results each day in each of the content lessons?
How would you use the results the next day in your planning and why? Did you
expect these results? Why or why not?

Students Exit Slip Response

(yes, knew it) (no, didn’t know
it)

D’Asya No

Karmine Yes

Lealand No

Odell Yes

Loyal’E Yes

Ari’elle Yes

Naveah No

Soniyah No

Carley Yes

Christopher No

Melanie No

Results: The above graph shows if the students knew a beginning, middle, or end of the story. If
the students were able to tell me a major event in the story then they would have written YES on
their exit slip. If they could not tell me a major event in the story they would have written NO on
the exit slip. I was pleased with the results because it helps me to know which students need help
with learning major events in a story. I expected the results I received because I knew some of
the students who do not perform as well as their classmates would have answered no.

Results: The above graph shows a smiley face for knowing goods and services and the X
indicates that the student did not know what goods and services are. The students used a T-Chart
to decipher between a good and service. The results with the students with the smiley face did
not shock me because they were able to do the assignment quickly and get the right answers. The
students who did not get a smiley face need better understanding of goods and services. I did
expect these results because the students performed their best and some have parents to help and
some do not.

Results: The smiley faces show that the students knew the shapes when being observed and the
sad faces show they did not. I was shocked by these results because the students I thought knew
their shapes, did not. The students definitely need more work with shapes because so many of
them did not know shapes and their sides.

Results: The students had to match the pictures with the correct words. The students with the
GREEN check mark did it correctly and knew what words went to which picture. The students
with the RED check mark were not able to finish the document and did not do well. I expected
these results because I know this has been the first time some of the students have talked about
and learned about the weather.

2. When reflecting on the feedback you provided for the 2 students and the whole
class, do you feel this effectively provided them with insight into their learning
about the content? Why?
During lesson week, I was currently on zoom with my students. I provided a lot of
verbal feedback to the whole class and the 2 students I observed. One of my students has
a behavioral problem and the other student is on an IEP. I feel like the verbal feedback to
my two students worked effectively because they respond to me and ask questions when
they are confused and do not understand. As for the whole class, I feel like my verbal
feedback was effective in learning the content because students need to hear “ you’re
doing a good job” or “ can you reopen the assignment and color in the counters?” This
positive feedback will help students to become more successful and understand the
content better.

3. How did you or will you help students use this feedback?
During lesson week, I helped students use this feedback by taking a break. Once
the students turned in their assignments and I checked it to make sure it was done they
were allowed to start their long break for 20 minutes. This will teach young ones like my
kindergarteners that when you do something good, you may get something in return.
Positive verbal feedback is a great step to help kindergarteners become successful. The
students respond well to verbal feedback.

4. Describe what you learned about teaching and learning related to assessment and
feedback?
During lesson week, I have learned that assessments are a great way to check for
students' understanding in all content areas. Assessments give data that helps teachers
know what needs to be taught to help students learn the material. I have talked about
formative assessments and prepared them before, I know more now about formative
assessments than I did before. I also learned that giving feedback is very important
especially with younger students. Giving proper feedback to students will help them
become successful in the future.

5. What would you have done differently during this lesson week? Why?
If I could do something different during lesson week, I would change my science
lesson. Looking back, I would have liked to add more information about weather and fun
activities. I think if I added more information about weather the students would be able to
learn about the weather more efficiently. For me, it was difficult to do anything fun
because of COVID-19. I feel like if I was in the classroom I could have done a fun
experiment with weather and made it more fun for the students. For this lesson, I made it
as engaging and fun as I could for my students even though we were online.

What did you learn about yourself?
During lesson week, I learned things about myself that I already knew and some new things that
I learned about myself. Based on the results I got from my students it shows that I care and treat
my students nicely. As a teacher it is important to build relationships with your students so they
feel comfortable around you. I have been a warm hearted caring person around all of my students
now and during other field experiences.

What will you do differently for the unit and for student teaching based on this data?
Based on this data, I will take into consideration my students feelings and fix all of the ones that
said maybe or no. I want my students to feel confident in learning and becoming successful in
my classroom, but for that to happen I want my students to feel comfortable in the classroom
along with being comfortable with me as well. The data is not that bad, but I do think my
students had a hard time understanding what was being asked.
