Social media marketing is the use of social media platforms to connect with your
audience to build your brand, increase sales, and drive website traffic. This
involves publishing great content on your social media profiles, listening to and
engaging your followers, analysing your results, and running social media
advertisements.
The major social media platforms (at the moment) are Facebook, Instagram,
There are also a range of social media management tools that help businesses to
get the most out of the social media platforms listed above.
Social media marketing first started with publishing. Businesses were sharing

1. Strategy
Before you dive right in and publish something on social media, let’s take a step
back and look at the bigger picture. The first step is to think about your social
media strategy.
How can social media help you achieve your business goals? Some businesses
use social media for increasing their brand awareness, others use it for driving
website traffic and sales. Social media can also help you

Pinterest, YouTube, and Snapchat. There are also smaller and up-and-coming
platforms, such as Tumblr, Tik Tok, and Anchor, and social messaging platforms,
such as Messenger, WhatsApp, and WeChat. When starting out, it’s better to pick
a few platforms that you think your target audience is on than to be on all
platforms.
What type of content do you want to share? What type of content will attract

entertaining content? A good place to start is to create a marketing persona, which
will help you answer these questions. And this doesn’t have to be fixed forever;
you can always change your strategy according to how your social media posts
perform.
Social media marketing for small businesses usually starts with having a
on a social media platform. It’s just like how you would share on your personal
Facebook profile. But you will want to plan your content ahead of time instead
of creating and publishing content spontaneously. Also, to ensure that you are
maximizing your reach on social media, you need to publish great content that
As your business and social media following grow, conversations about your
brand will also increase. People will comment on your social media posts, tag

People might even talk about your brand on social media without letting you
know. So you will want to monitor social media conversations about your brand.
If it’s a positive comment, you get a chance to surprise and delight them.
Otherwise, you can offer support and correct a situation before it gets worse.
You can manually check all your notifications across all the social media
platforms but this isn’t efficient and you won’t see posts that didn’t tag your
business’s social media profile. You can instead use a social media listening and
engagement tool that aggregates all your social media mentions and messages,
including posts that didn’t tag your business’s social media profile.
4. Analytics
Along the way, whether you are publishing content or engaging on social media,
you will want to know how your social media marketing is performing. Are you
reaching more people on social media than last month? How many positive
mentions do you get a month? How many people used your brand’s hashtag on

OTHER BENEFITS OF SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING IN
Just because you have a business doesn’t mean that you only have to spend time
with it. I mean, if you want to make sure that people choose your brand, then you
need to interact with the people as well. Social media is the perfect tool for that.If
you make contacts with the clients and customers that you have, then you will see
that more and more people are interested in your brand. Not just that but you also
need to connect with influencers and other businesses as well. But how are you
going to do that? Well, this is where social media again takes the game away.
With the help of social media networking, you can easily engage with more
people and also the people that really matter to the internet. Social Media is one
of the most powerful platforms for widening the reach of businesses. With
analytics tools, you can know inclinations and presence of your audiences.
Till now we have only talked about how it is important to make contacts with the
people. Now we are telling you that you need to expand the network that you
have as well.
23 | P a g e
You need to make sure that people know how influential you are. So, social media
can again be a great help in that. It can optimize your brand recognition and let
people be aware of your unique highlights in the most effective and result driven
manner possible. There are so many different types of platforms where people
sharing interests, can come and have discussions over topics and sub-topics. Well,
you can easily make some new networks and connections over here. The more
you talk about stuff, the more people will get you. You need to establish yourself
as a subject expert that will automatically pull in those people who are in search
of industry or niche experts. This will optimize your presence on the web
Well, we don’t literally mean the sky but we mean that you need to have a good
reputation in the online world in order to make sure that your business is a
success. There is no doubt about the fact that word travels really fast around in
the world of social media. If you want people to talk positive about your business,
then you need to have a reputation like that. Social media reputation is a very
important objective for the business. See that people know and respect you as a
brand. Only that way you will be able to make an effect on people and ultimately
your business will have a blast. Having an Online Reputation Manager can be
highly useful for you. Including Social Media Listening and Social Media

LIMITATIONS OF STUDY
• Feeling Disconnected
You will not be able to experience what it is like to work with other people in the office. You
most probably only really communicate with the person in charge of the project you’re working
on and any other team members on the project. You may miss out on learning from others in
the office or being able to get an immediate response to any questions you may have.
Furthermore, you may feel left out as you may not be able to attend social events with your
colleagues.
Having that connection with other colleagues in the office can be crucial in developing your
in an office so that you are able to ask questions directly versus having to communicate solely
online. If you are someone who does need an in-office experience then a remote internship may
not be for you. That’s okay. It is important to understand what type of environment would be
However…
It should be noted that there are ways to help if you are feeling disconnected. These include
establishing regular video calls with your supervisor throughout the week and asking if it’s
possible to be connected to other interns or colleagues. In addition to that, be sure to attend any
virtual social events that the company may host, or even suggest that they host a virtual social
35 | P a g e
• Miscommunication
In online internships, everything is reliant on communicating things clearly via emails or video-
calls. Therefore, miscommunication can occur during your internship especially if things are a
bit disorganised. You may not have completely understood the project you’re working on
entirely or a question you’ve asked may have been misinterpreted. This can be frustrating
It is common with online internships that you will be part of formal weekly video calls as well
as communicating with colleagues via email and instant messages. These forms of
misunderstandings. It’s important to be mindful of this as your colleague may not have meant
something the way you may have interpreted it and if you respond too quickly it may make a
Therefore…
Some of the best ways to combat miscommunication are to ensure clear deadlines and goals
are set for your project. If there are questions that arise during your internship, note them all
down and ask to discuss them over a quick call or email. Do not be afraid to ask questions. The
more questions you ask the better you may be able to understand the details of your work while
also eliminating the possibility of any miscommunication. Employers would rather that you
asked more questions and provided the correct work than stay quiet and submit something that
36 | P a g e
• Distractions
It can be easy to not focus on your work if you aren’t in an office setting. Your phone, a noisy
environment or being around others can lead you to waste valuable time originally dedicated
to your internship. It happens, we are all susceptible to it. However, if you are continuously
distracted it may cause you to rush to complete an assignment before its deadline. Therefore,
Some of the best ways to avoid distractions are to set a fixed amount of time to sit down and
do your projects. Turn your phone on silent and facedown so as to avoid the temptation to
answer a text or social media notification. Also, be sure to schedule a brain break. Step away
from the computer, go for a walk, and let your mind step away from it all. Afterwards, you can
come back to your work feeling refreshed and energised to keep going.
One of the best things about an in-office internship is the number of people you meet, many of
those will be in your desired career field who may be able to present you with future
opportunities. In a remote internship, you will be limited to who you come in contact with.
However, in today’s ever-growing world of technology, you may find that remote work is
becoming more popular. So, there may be more opportunities to network online. Though it may
• Requires Self-Motivation
37 | P a g e
A remote internship is challenging in the way that you need to have self-motivation and time
management to be successful. These are all things you can learn during your remote internship,
but if this something you know you may struggle with anyway, a remote internship may not be
for you.
It is often hard to determine if you are a self-motivated person. You may find that once you’ve
begun your internship, your self-motivation will improve especially if you’re enjoying the
work. However, it is common for your motivation to drop at some point in the internship,
maybe due to a difficult project or feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work, take some time
to reevaluate how to get your passion back by taking a break, changing up your work schedule
or speaking to other colleagues about how they’ve handled similar situations previously.
Final Thoughts
Overall, online internships are a game changer from what we know of as “traditional”
internship experiences. It opens doors to those who could not afford, financially or time-wise,
communicate with others and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
