A. Read the conversation below.

You : What is the Ocean Clean-Up Campaign about?

Adelia : It is a campaign held by district office to clean up Banting Beach.

You : Why is the campaign so significant?

Ben : It is in line with the activities of the International Coastal Clean-Up, an

international movement that engages people to remove trash from the world’s
beaches and waterways, identify the sources and instill awareness. Malaysia is a
participating country.

You : So, some members of the school Clean Environment Club joined the said
campaign to clean up Banting Beach.

Adelia : Yes, it was a single-day volunteer effort to clean marine litter from the beach.
There were 50 student volunteers, including other school students and some locals
from the fishing villages. The sponsor for the event prepared snacks and drinks
for the volunteers.

Ben : The events is not just to pick trash to keep the beach look clean. The purpose is
to keep it from blowing back out to sea and harming marine life. People have to
realise the impact of trash and repercussions when trash is not properly discarded.

You : So, the primary aims are to continuously keep trash from entering waterways
and educating the community. Keeping the local waterways, beaches, lakes and
rivers clean is not just for one day a year. It has to be continuously. I wish I had
been there.

Adelia : More than a thousand kilogram of trash was collected. The students, surprised
and shocked at the amount collected responded positively to spread the word that
clean seas and oceans mean a clean environment. That sums up as a healthy mind,
a healthy life to stay fit as fiddle.
