ACTIVITY PLAN
Title of unit (if applicable) The World of Musical Instruments Kindergarten 4-to-5-year-old
The goal of this activity is for students to develop the vocabulary of the musical

Competency #1 - Children will be developing their gross motor skills through
bodily movements by placing their bodies on the right circles. They will be aware
of how their physical actions may influence another person on the board.

out their role in the activity with respect and awareness for themselves and their
QEP Preschool peers. They will conduct themselves confidently by making positive choices.
Competencies Competency #3 – Children will be interacting with their peers by taking turns and
cooperating with others on the board, allowing them to develop social awareness.
Competency #4 – Children will be developing their vocabulary surrounding
instruments and music, while also communicating with their peers to play the
game fairly. This group activity allows for children to communicate with each other
throughout the game and exercise these skills if a disagreement occurs.
The differentiation components will change depending on how familiar the
children are with the instruments and the instrumental groups.
There will be a chart provided to them with images of the different groups and

the game. As the children become more familiar with the groups and the
instrument names, the teacher can begin to encourage the children to only look
when they really need to/not use it at all.
Twister board with images of different instruments (guitar, flute, drums...)

(strings, brass, woodwind, percussion)

Invite 4 children to play at the Twister station.
- The twister mat will be spread out on the floor as well as the twister
spinners.
- The teacher will instruct the children on how the game will work. Before
beginning, the teacher will review the vocabulary of the instruments and
the instrumental groups with the students. Following this, the teacher
will explain the rules verbally. The teacher will demonstrate one round by
spinning the spinner, naming an instrument that belongs to that group

and putting a body part on that instrument’s picture on the mat.
- The children can begin playing.
- They will take turns by first spinning the instrumental group spinner and
then the body part spinner.
- The child will name an instrument from that group that they see on the
mat (with the help of the chart if needed). They will then place their
arm/leg on the image of the instrument that they choose.
- The next child takes their turn, spins the wheel, and the steps repeat.

Explanation:
Children will work together and cooperate by taking turns within a small group. They will cooperate
physically by placing their bodies on the board in relation to others. They will use the information they
learned about instruments to identify them and classify which ones go into each group of instruments. The
children will creatively move their bodies on the board to hold themselves up.
