It turns out the two rappers

meet each other back in

1994.
Snoop Dogg stopped by The Tonight Show last night and host Jimmy Fallon asked him about
his relationship with the late DMX. Snoop revealed that he was actually the inspiration behind
the phrase, “Get at me dog,” which X would use for one of his earliest hits.

According to Snoop, he met X at a show around 1994 after he performed in New York City,
and the two rappers went to the studio afterward.

“When he first met me, I was like away from him, and he was saying, ‘What’s happening,
what’s up?’ And I was like, ‘Get at me dog,‘” said Snoop, to Fallon. “And he was like, ‘I took
that and I made that into my song ‘Get at Me Dog,’ ’cause the way you got at me and said
that, I was like, ‘That’s slick.’ So that night inspired him to create that song, ‘Get at Me Dog,’
which was one of his, you know, biggest hood records that he put out.”
