are many new dangers to world peace and terrorism, the threat of nuclear and other

powerful weapons, STDs, social evils, economic crises and even religious or so-called
holy wars are a fact of the post-modern world! What are the reasons responsible for
such a condition of the world? Are they related to human greed, anger, and
haughtiness? Or have they originated out of the lack of loving-kindness, compassion
and wisdom? The answer to both these questions is emphatic yes. People have
knowledge and intelligence, but they certainly lack wisdom as well as loving-
kindness and compassion. With their knowledge, they have created the modern
scientific-technological civilization that gives them a comfortable life, but they also
use it to harm those, whom they envy or hate due to lack of loving-kindness and
compassion. According to Buddhism all the terrible human actions and harmful
activities are caused by unwholesome mind governed by delusion or ignorance. This
is clearly a lack of wisdom. Wisdom can wear out greed, anger, haughtiness, and is
capable or nourishing loving-kindness and compassion. Wisdom encompasses vast
love without any selfishness and distinction towards all sentient beings. It is a
necessary prerequisite for a life of peace and harmony. If people develop loving-
kindness, compassion and wisdom, then they can live a life of virtue, and apply
modern science and technology for the benefit of many. As a result of this, people can
live happily and without any worries or fear. When human life becomes happier, our
world can be a better place to live in, truly heralding an era of golden age.

millions. To complete their aspirations, Buddhists should co-operate with each other
dedicatedly in the spread and application of the Buddhist message for the benefit and
well-being of many. Nowadays, the tendency to adhere to different traditions still
exists among the Buddhists. It can be said to be a danger to the potency and
credibility of Buddhism. Buddhists need to have a through grasp of the Buddha’s
teachings and realization of the Buddhist spirit exhibited by many positive features in
various circumstances in order to avoid disunity and inharmoniousness leading to the
weakening of the force of Buddhism. Practically, Buddhism today is composed of two
great traditions: the Theravāda and the Mahāyāna. It can be said that the main
