RIZAL IN DAPITAN

It was also shown in the film that the priest was so opposed to Dr. Jose Rizal's actions, even

though they were for the good of the villagers. People who are concerned about the education of youths

are celebrated and regarded as heroes or a gift from God nowadays, but during Rizal's period, when he

had free classes providing education to the poorest sectors of the population, the church demonstrated its

opposition. The church, through the friars, convinced people, especially parents, to stop sending their

children to schools where Dr. Jose Rizal taught, because Rizal had been labeled a traitor and had been

excommunicated from the church.
