1. INTRODUCTION
These explanations concern the control card (type DL-FM) for execution of fixed position stop (orienta-
tion function) by combination of a magnetic body and a sensor.
Though this control card has two types, DL-FM card and DL-FM 1 card, each card is perfectly compatible.
The difference of DL-FM card and DL-FM 1 card is shown 643).
The following paragraphs list some general safety reminders and safety recommendations IO be followed
when operating and adjusting this equipment.
(a) Only trained electrical and electronics personnel should maintain this equipment.
It is dangerous to the untrained or unskilled.
(b) Electric shock can cause personal injury or loss of life. Whether the AC voltage supply is grounded or
not, high voltages to ground will be present at many points within the control system.
So that extreme care must be exercised in the selection and use of test instruments.
(c) When working around rotating equipment, do not wear any loose clothing that could become caught in
the equipment.
(d) Do not insert or remove printed circuit cards from the equipment while power is applied or operating;
this can damage the equipment.
(e) Printed circuit boards marked “MOS, handle with care” should not be touched unnecessarily, as
MO.5IC damage may occur. For storage and transport, they should be placed into bags for prevention
of static electricity.
(f) Equipment, printed circuit boards, spare parts, etc. should be stored at a clean and dry place with
suitable temperature, and use of a space heater etc. should be taken into consideration as applicable.
(g) When the magnet is stored near a strongly magnetic body, it will be weakened and the characteristics
no longer will be obtained, so that caution is required. (Placing magnets against each other.also should
be avoided.)
c
3. BASIC PRINCIPLE AND OPERATION EXPLANATION
The sensor generates the 2 types of voltages shown in Fig. 3-1 according to its position relation with the
magnetic body.
.
MS signal:
This signal shows an output of 0 V at the center position of the magnetic body, while the output becomes a
maximum at both ends. Fixed position control is executed for this 0 V position.
LS signal :
A constant voltage is generated in the range of the magnetic body. This is used for confirmation that
spindle has been stopped correctly in the range of the magnetic body.

(1) When ORCl (orientation command) becomes ON, the motor speed is switched from the normal
operation speed to the orientation speed.
(2) When the motor speed reaches the orientation speed, the speed arrival signal (CH3) rises.
c
(3) After rise of the speed arrival signal, the slow-down timer starts operation by the timing of rise of the
sensor L_S signal to H (the timing when the magnetic body has passed the front of the sensor).
\
(4) The slow-down timer is set to 250 ms, and when the time of this timer is up, switching is executed
c from the speed loop for orientation speed to the position servo loop.
(5) By position loop control, spindle is stopped at the 0 V position of the sensor MS signal.
(6) The orientation completion signal rises at the target position, and as a timer is installed in the output
fi circuit, ORAl-ORA (orientation completion contact signal output) is closed after about 200 ms.
4. INSTALLATION OF MAGNETIC BODY AND SENSOR
(1) Install so that the center reference hole of the magnetic piece is on the same side as the key bezel of
the detection head.
(2) Install the magnetic piece so that the center reference hole is on the right side when the spindle tool is
on the left side (opposite side of the tool).
Mount the magnetic body so that key bezel and base hole are set to the opposite side of load side of
spindle.

(1) When the attached surface is opposite to load side of spindle, attach the center reference hole
and key bezel to the center side of spindle.

I 1. When magnetic piece and detection head are attached to opposite side each other as shown in Fig. 4-4,
orientation positions at forward direction and at reverse direction are not same point, because orien-
, tation positions are each edge of magentic piece.

At the time of installation on the spindle, pay attention to the following items.
(1) Do not bring the magnetic body near to strong magnetic bodies.
(2) Take care that the magnetic body is not subjected to shocks.
(5) Install the magnetic body so that the center reference hole coincides with the center of the installa-
tion disk and that the installation direction is according to Fig. 4-l.
(6) Clean the surroundings of the magnetic body sufficiently to prevent errors from attached iron powder,
cutting chips, etc.
(7) Apply lock paint etc. to prevent loosening of the installation screws.
(8) In case of installation on a polished disk, magnetization of the disk can be considered, so that de-
magnetization should be executed.
(9) Consider so that the diameter of disk attached to magnetic piece is more then 80mm and less than
120mm.
(I) The key bezel of the detector head must be on the same side as the center reference hole of the
magnetic piece.
(2) install the detection head so that the center line of the head tip coincides with the center line of the
magnetic piece. (Fig. 4-1)
(3) When the magnetic piece is rotated, the gap with the head at the closest position in case of Fig. 4-1
shall be lmm 2:::. In case of Fig. 4-2,3, the gap shall be 2.5 + 0.5 mm.
c
When this gap exceeds 1.5mm, adjustment of VR807 of chapter 6 is required.
*Manufacture of a jig is recommended for mass production.
(4) The connector of the preamplifier is an oil-proof type, but installation should be made at a place not
exposed to oil as far as possible.
c
(5) The cable from the preamplifier to the controller should be kept away from power circuits.
(6) Check the connector wiring, insert it sufficiently into the receptacle, and tighten the lock screw of
the connector.

6. ADJUSTMENT AT THE SHIPMENT
At the time of shipment from the factory, the following potentiometers have been set according to the
characteristics of each unit and have been locked, so that adjustment should be executed only when ne-
cessary.
3) Write down’the position of VR807 when LED 6 has just lit, and also, write down the
position of VR807 when LED 6 has just distingiushed.
4) Readjust the VR807 to center position and adjust it to middle of recorded positions
after 5 ms.
c

2) Observe between CH8 and COM with a synchroscope and adjust VR807 to peak
voltage for following.

7. SITE ADJUSTMENT

1) Adjust each VR so that the LED S for “IN-POS. FINE” lights up with stop by orien-
tation completion.
At this time, set to the center position between the position where the LED lights with
VR adjustment from the left side and the position where the LED lights with VR
adjustment from the right side, as shown in the following figure.
When a digital voltmeter is available, connect the instrument between CH8 and COM,
and set the VR SO that the indication is within + 10 mV.
t
2) When hunting occurs, VR803 and VR804 are adjusted, then this offset adjustment
also must be executed.
3) When there is a difference between high-speed and low-speed range orientation posi-
tion, the offset adjustment can be considered as insufficient, and readjustment should
be executed.

#en VR702 is turned for a large degree, a difference is caused for the orientation position
according to MO3 and M04, so that the orientation speed must be decreased slightly, and
c thus this should be done only after confirming that the detector installation direction is
correct and that it has been ftied securely.
(5) After set-up of the machine, checking must be executed to confirm that the position has not deviated
c because of the influence of an external magnetic field.
8. MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTIONS
Positive maintenance and inspections are the first step for stable use of the machine over a long time.
Please execute the maintenance and inspections listed in the following.
(1) Keep dirt, metal chips, etc. away from the card surface.
(2) Prevent loosening, dropping-out, etc. for the connection connectors (CON4, CON54).
(1) There may be no looseness of the installation screws, and the magnet must be installed securely.
t
(2) Prevent attachment of magnetic iron dust etc. on the surface.
(1) There may be no looseness of the installation screws, and the head must be installed securely.
(2) Prevent attachment and accumulation of magnetic iron dust etc. at the head tip and near the instal-
lation part.
