TYPES OF DATA

Qualitative Data- it is a data that deals with characteristics and descriptors that can’t be easily
measured, but can be observe subjectively- such as smells, tastes, texture, attractiveness, and color.

Kinds of Qualitative Data

 Nominal Data- these are the set of values that don’t possess a natural ordering.

Ex. The color of smartphone can be considered as a nominal data type as we can’t compare one
color with the other.
The gender of a person is another type of nominal data.
 Ordinal Data- these are set of values that have a natural ordering while maintaining their class
of values.

Ex. If we consider the size of a clothing brand then we can easily sort them according to their
name tag in order of small < medium < large.
The grading system marking candidates in a test can be also considered ordinal data type
where A+ is definitely better than B grade.

Quantitative Data- it is a data that deals with numbers and things you can measure objectively:
dimensions such as height, width, and length. Temperature and humidity. Prices. Area and Volume.

Kinds of Quantitative Data

 Discrete Data- is a count that can’t be more precise. Typically, it involves integers.
Ex. The number of children in the family.
The number of students in a classroom.
 Continuous Data- a data that can be measure on a continuum scale.
Ex. The weight of a baby in its first year.
The temperature of the room throughout the day.
