Lord, You have promised that if we will commit our work to You, You will make us
succeed. So today, I dedicate every aspect of my work to You. I need Your wisdom daily
to make the right choices, ones that require fairness, integrity, and a servant spirit. From
the start of every work day, I want to begin and end with You, knowing that You will
guide every step and every decision I make.

Keep reminding me that people are more important than work projects, and that You not
only want me to succeed, but You desire for me to help make others successful.
Whether it’s my classmates or teachers, help me see them as Your creations, worthy of
respect and thoughtfulness. We all matter to You, God. If I have problems at home or in
school, may I still reflect You in every way and keep my eyes on You. I know Your idea
of success and mine may differ, and that to You, godly character is more important than
completion of my goals.

Help me to work hard with patience and persistence, shunning laziness and embracing a
thankful spirit for the opportunities You have given me. Throughout the day, remind me
that You are in charge, not me. May I do all things with excellence as if I am doing them
for You, O Lord.

I want Your goals to be my goals, and Your purposes, mine. Give me a learning spirit so
I can constantly increase the skills You have given me to honor You and bring You glory.
I know I am not to neglect those gifts You have placed within me, but that I am to watch
myself closely to keep ambition in its right place and temptation at bay.

We would also like to pray for the safety of our loved ones, relatives, friends,
classmates, our communities, and the people around the world who are threatened by
COVID 19. Please give us a strong body and good health to overcome the virus that
continues to terrorize the people and to slow down our economy consequently affecting
our livelihoods. Lord, we ask for your intercession to stop the spread of this dreaded
virus. Protect your people from the threats of COVID 19. Help our government and
leaders to find an effective way to stop the spread of the virus.

This we ask in Jesus name, Amen.

Our Lasallian Prayer.

A 3-minute Read: EXCELLENCE

September is the month for Committed to Excellence. We all know that Lasallians always aim
for Excellence. But what do you really mean by the word EXCELLENCE?

As we learn to live with our Lasallian Core Values, we also, little by little, develop the leaders
within ourselves, shift our paradigms and work in synergy with other people. According to
Confucius, “The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential,
these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.”

John Gardner, on the other hand, said that, “Excellence is doing ordinary things
extraordinarily well.”
We may agree with Confucius that the desire and urge to
succeed and to be the best is the definition of excellence. You
may also agree with Gardner that it is transforming an
ordinary act or thing into somewhat extraordinary is the real
meaning of excellence.

But to our founder, St. John Baptist De La Salle,

commitment to excellence is much more than the
desire or urge to succeed. It is more than
transforming something ordinary into extraordinary
well.

❏ Excellence is not only enriching one’s knowledge

and wisdom.

❏ It is also using them to touch the hearts of other
people to care for those who are in need.
❏ It is also to have the initiative to change the lives of
other people who need our help and care the most.

This is Lasallian Excellence.

4. What is YOUR definition of excellence?

HABIT 1: BE PROACTIVE

One of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is “Be Proactive”.

A person who is considered proactive chooses his/her behavior. He/she is motivated,

driven, and dynamic. He/she is “response-able” (Stephen Covey, 1985) meaning he/she
has the ability to respond appropriately in any situation.

He/she is a positive thinker. An optimist. Whenever there is a challenge, he/she sees the
brighter side of that challenge. In other words, a person who is proactive is in charge
of and controls the situation. It is the opposite of being “reactive”.

Watch the video entitled “Be Proactive Song”. According to the song, how can you “Be
Proactive”?

According to the song, how

can someone “Be Proactive”?

Answer:
Someone could be proactive by just like being a leader. In the song it talks about how
you could be proactive in many different ways

They always do their best in order to achieve their goals in academics and in life. They also
work very hard to gain success.

To become successful, they maintain a proactive attitude.

They are in charge of every decision they make that leads them to the achievement of their
goals. They are also responsible in every action they do and take charge.

Being proactive, Lasallians strive hard and show what they got because they are
committed to excellence.
