Working as an environmental health officer requires not only academic qualifications but also
certain skills and abilities to carry out the job to the required standards. Mentioning these skills
and abilities in the cover letter that will accompany your application will no doubt improve the
chances of you being taken through to the next round of the recruitment process.
Strong analytical skills and having a strong sense of attention to detail will certainly improve
your chances and will help your cover letter to stand out amongst the other received by the
person in charge of recruitment. As an Environmental Health Officer you will be in charge of
carrying out inspections, weighing up results and implementing the necessary follow up
measures, therefore being able to analyse and spot anything out of the ordinary are essential
skills looked for by those recruiting in the health and safety field.

circumstances, assertiveness, professionalism and discretion are personality skills that are also
worth mentioning in your cover letter.

Throughout my career I have gained the necessary experience to be very successful in this
sector. I have outstanding technical and project management skills, being able to manage
multiple projects at the same time without quality being affected and fulfilling my daily duties.
As you can see in more in-depth detail in my attached CV I have a deep knowledge and
understating the implementation of environmental management compliance systems, RCRA,
EPCRA, air quality, hazardous waste and material transportation requirements.
I also have experience conducting inspections of companies and facilities to ensure they are
following the laws and procedures. Alongside this I have excellent analytical skills, making
