Thank you for sharing a great post with us Quelinda. Nursing leadership and continued

education and advancement are crucial for improved health care in our society. The best nurses

are those that continue to learn and share their knowledge with those around them. Mentoring is

one of the most crucial aspects of nursing advancement in healthcare. Often, it is difficult for

new nurses to find a solid mentor that has the time to show them the way in our field. With

increased turnover rates and higher acuity, it is difficult for one person to spread their time

enough to complete all of the required tasks at hand.

We must work together and learn from one another to continuously provide patients with

effective health care. Milstead (2019) shared that “Indeed, all the various incarnations and

articles describing an attribute or core educational component can be boiled down to one succinct

statement and goal: to teach all healthcare providers to partner and utilize any and all resources

available both medical and nonmedical to bring about a sustained positive outcome for the

patient”. Nurses, physicians, clinicians, and supportive staff must all come together to analyze

each patient care situation and look for ways to reach an improved patient outcome.

Nurse must share their knowledge with one another, and they must continue to advance

their education to stay updated on the newest techniques and advances within our everchanging

field. The Institute of Medicine of the National Academies (2011) shared that the primary goals

of nursing education remain the same: nurses must be prepared to meet diverse patients’ needs;

function as leaders; and advance science that benefits patients and the capacity of health

professionals to deliver safe, quality patient care. Effective nursing leaders can help guide the

nursing field towards better patient care outcomes and continued improvements in our field.
