Week 13

Video lecture on "Observing Time"

- you bring this up in your 20th century rhythm/meter presentation, thought
we could make good use of it!
- love the Berio sequenza example.
- can include others, like the La Monte Young example, and bits of info from
other slides, but no need to tear into tons of different subtopics

Perhaps add Stockhausen's Kontakte? same "time stamp" style notation, precise
rhythms but very much a sense of playing within the space of time. The graphic
notation of the fixed media electronics is both interesting and informative, since
it's not "live" you have to go by the exact pacing Stockhausen dictates!

Could also talk about the longer works of Feldman if that strikes your fancy (but
totally unnecessary if he's not your jam)

Can be as short as 20 minutes, no longer than 45 minutes, and be careful about

playing recordings within the video, if you do you will likely get flagged by
YouTube but it should still allow you to have the video up and unlisted.

Wednesday: Aleatoric music (I will cover this)

Friday: Minimalism - intro to concept, definitions, composers, "process music" and

a couple examples like Piano Phase, (let them know the "Clapping Music" app
exists!), La Monte Young (as you had already brought up).
