“Tavi!” his mother exclaimed.

“Com fi your food bwoy and tek dat headset off yuh ears” she shouted.
“easy yourself, no mommy mi a come” he chidingly responded.
“How many times me fi tell you fi no talk to me so bwoy, now come eat before
your food turn cold”.
Tavaughn removed his headset and proceeded to the kitchen.
“I hope you not listening to that devil music again enuh, hurry and eat your food
and gwan a school” his mother said.  Tavaughn finished his meal and rushed
through the front door grabbing his headset on the way out. He quickly placed
them back over his ears and continued listening to Vybz kartel's music while
walking to school. The bell rang as school began. It was the first period and Ms
Smiths’ math class was ready to begin.
"Take your seat children” she instructed, “today we will be drawing geometric
figures please take out your geometry sets and begin".
Tavaughn searched his bag but found neither a ruler nor pencil. He was not
prepared as he had stayed up listening to music and forgot to pack his bag prior
to falling asleep.
"Wah mi go do now” he thought
Ms Smith's golden rule was for students to come to class prepared and those
who didn’t would stand on the corridor until class was concluded. Samantha, a
fellow student, had asked Ms Smith to be excused. As she walked out Tavaughn
eye landed on the geometry set that she had left on her table. He thought to
himself that no one would recognize the difference as all students used the same
oxford set recommended to them. Recognizing this golden opportunity- as
everyone else focused their attention towards the board- nervous hands leaned
over his single bench and took Samantha's geometry set in one swoop. Cautious
eyes peered around and it seemed as though no one had seen him. However,
Samantha’s re-entry proved him wrong she approached her seat it did not take
long to realise that her brand new geometry set was missing.
"Weh me geometry set gone" she said alarmingly.
She quickly alerted Ms smith that while she had been gone someone had stolen
her set of tools.
"The person who took Samantha's geometry set return it this instant or you will
be in serious trouble" Ms smith chided.
But the children only looked at her with confused faces, even tavaughn who
tried to copy his peers.
"No one is leaving for lunch until Samantha’s set is returned" shouted Ms
Smith, but to no avail. Tevaughn resembled a marathon runner, sweat slowly
trickled down his back.
Whispers began to plague the room, though, short lived as Micheal's speech
would break the silence.
"It was Tavaughn miss, I saw him take it" the young boy said
A sudden shock washed over Tavaughn body, his look of confusion slowly
faded away
"is this true tavaughn?" Ms smith questioned.
"No miss I don't know what he's talking about" he haughtily replied.
Ms smith walked to his seat and began to closely examine the geometry set
tavaughn possessed. At first glance it looked like any other.
"My name is marked in mine miss" Samantha stated. Ms smith continued to
scrutinize the set. She opened it and checked and to her surprise she saw
"Samantha Brown" marked in the bottom corner of the set.
"Tavaughn this set is not yours, and there will be consequences for your
actions." She sternly stated. The onlookers in the class erupted.
Tavaughn heart galloped at the rate of a racing horse.
“Quiet!” she demanded the class "You’ll stay back after school and write a
thousand lines and you’ll, empty the class bin for the following week" Ms smith
stated.
A feeling of emptiness filled Tavaughn but the more he sat there the more he
became angry, not with his actions but being called out by Michael.
"That little informa bwoy go get what's coming to him enuh” he stated
remembering what his idol continuously preached “informa fi dead" he thought
venomously.
The music tavaughn listened to was not fond of people who ‘informed’. And so
he devised a plan. Lunch time had begun and the children were all outside
He acquired a rock and waited for Michael to approach the football field. Not
too long after his opponent had made his way, without a second thought of the
consequences tavaughn clenched the rock in his hand and like a serpent slowly
slithered towards Michael.

“Ahhh!” the young boy screamed in anguish, for tavaughn slammed the rock to
the back of his head and watched as he fell to ground. Screams echoed all
around them, blood flowed from Michaels head. Teachers rushed to the scene
tavaughn stood, paralyzed, looking at his fallen classmate

“what have I done?!”. He thought
