MATCHING TYPE

 This type consists of two columns in which proper pairing relationship of two things is
strictly observed.
 It measures the ability to identify the relationship between a set of similar items, each of
which has two components such as words and definition, symbols and their meaning,
data and events, causes and effect, problem and solution.
 The items in the first column are called Premises and the answers in the second column
are called Responses.

WHEN TO USE MATCHING TYPE They are effective when you need to measure the
learner’s ability to identify the relationship between similar items, they work best when the
course content has many parallel concept.

RULES FOR CONSTRUCTING MATCHING TYPE
 Check your objectives to make sure this of question is appropriate.
 Give clear directions or instructions.
 Use numbers to identify items in Column A and to identify the response in Column B,
you need to use capital letters or vice versa.
 Include more responses than premises or allow responses to be used more than one or
vice versa.
 Arrange the items in Column B in logical order or vice versa.
 Put the items with more words in Column A
 Keep the two sets of items homogenous.
 Avoid using pattern in the correct answer.
ADVANTAGES OF MATCHING TYPE
 Provide objective measurement of student learning.
 Allow the comparison of related ideas, concepts or theories.
 Matching type items usually requires less time for the test taker to answer.
 They are easy to score and grade.
 Distractors may be provided.
DISADVANTAGES OF MATCHING TYPE
 Answers are already provided, which makes it prone to guesswork.
 These items do not allow test takers to demonstrate knowledge beyond the choices.
 May overestimate learning due to the influenced of guessing.
 May limit assessment to lower levels of understanding

REARRANGEMENT TYPE
 This type consists of a multiple-option item where it requires a chronological, logical,
rank, etc., order.
 The examinee is required to sort a group of option into a fixed number of predetermined
categories.
 This type of test uses jumbled pictures or words that need to be arranged.
