Hello everyone!

My name is Miss De Groot and I will be joining you in your classroom

for about a while, starting in March. Currently, I am a math education major at the University of
Lethbridge and I am so looking forward to getting to know every one of you. This letter gives
you an idea of who I am.

I grew up on a farm in a very small town (Hays), which some of you might know of. In
fact, most years I only had 3 or 4 students in my grade. We have cow-calf pairs and crops on the
farm. Growing up on the farm allowed me to join a youth organization called 4-H (which some
of you might be a part of!). I had various projects throughout my nine years in 4-H, which
include a market beef project, photography, and horse.

My love of photography grew from 4-H and I continue to share my joy of photography
by taking photos for families, weddings and events. Photography is still my main hobby, along
with travel. Travel has always been a big part of my life, as I love exploring new places and
experiencing a variety of cultures. I have been to Mexico, Korea, Ireland and the States. A
couple of years ago I drove with my mom all the way across Canada. I am really missing travel
during this time with covid! During school, I played a lot of team sports such as volleyball,
basketball, and soccer. Currently, my main sports are running, biking, horse riding and
snowboarding.

I love volunteering in the community! I have been volunteering at the Lethbridge

Therapeutic Riding Association for a couple of years now helping kids your age ride horses.
Teaching youth to ride horses is a great way to take skills I have learned growing up riding
horses and put them to use. 4-H has continued to stay a big part of my life where I volunteer at
various events such as cattle shows, camps, learning days and club events.

I want to become a teacher because I have enjoyed working with kids at 4-H camps and
teaching horse riding as a volunteer. During high school, I tutored junior high math and I
discovered that I had a knack at explaining math concepts in a way that the kids could
understand. I enjoyed tutoring and I look forward to teaching math as a career.

Thank you for taking the time to hear a bit about me.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Miss De Groot
