Spike
Alright.
Are you?
Harry
I'm all ready hang on, let me just turn this watch off 'cause you don't like going off through the err...
Spike
Harry
If I mess up.
Spike
There's - we can't restart the entire thing 'cause it's your reaction to the questions,
Harry
Yeah...
Spike
but it is just a conversation that's just there so I can look back at the conversation.
Harry
Yeah...
Spike
Harry
Yeah...
Spike
overbearing -- anything.
Harry
That’s brilliant
Spike
Here we go.
Harry
Spike
Harry
Spike
Harry
Well, my neighbors, they were - - friendly, supportive and they were always there - helping out.
Spike
Here’s the one that's a bit vague, but you can go anywhere you want with ah...
Harry
How well I'll do in my field of work because I've been there for seven months and sometimes you get
some questions that throw it in.
If I don't get this and I'm not gonna pass my course and it's quite, it's quite uncert- it's quite unnerving
uncerta- it can make you feel uncertain and uneasy.
Spike
Harry
I'm doing a land based engineering course level 2 City and Guilds qualification.
Spike
Excellent and what do you think you want to do when you go - off that course?
Or well, I when I get off that course, I'd like to go on to the Level 3 one, which means then I get a better
skills card for it.
And but I have to pass my tests 1st and to get through it once I'm not allowed to go onto that course and
then hopefully I can go off and venture out into the world and do different parts of my trade elsewhere.
Spike
Harry
Totally uncertain
Spike
at the moment?
Harry
Yeah,
Spike
Harry
All being left unanswered, there's a lot of politics that won't tell us stuff and feel like they're hiding
things away.
Uncertainty with if we are ever going to get out of this lockdown with covid that we're in and...
If.. Er if there’s something that could be more sinister.
It's quite it's quite scary, and being a - being a young young person in the world, I think that.
You want to know that in the future you'll be able to go out with your mates enjoy life and.
worrying
There's a.
Spike
You said there was something... you felt there could be something sinister.
Harry
And it seems like every time we get somewhere and there seems to be a little bit of good news struck
out into the into the into the into the world into the people that they shove it away and say no, no, no,
no, there's gonna be.
Is it threatening people?
10 people so far?
Or like the last couple of days you like oo.. but then you don't know?
Spike
Harry
And then the scientists are behind them, giving their advice and their opinion on it.
And it's.
I don't know.
That.. I don't know what their intentions are and what their plans are really.
Spike
Harry
Like that last thing which I I don't know 'cause I don't know what their - end game is their end result.
It feels quite like we lost almost, you know you had you know how like you had the the the the 1st and
the Second World War and it was the the achi- aim of that was to beat the the the Germans in the first
world war and the Nazis and the second one was to beat them and make sure that we weren't
suppressed by them whereas.
We gotta beat Covid but then it's like some people who seems they don't want to.
They want to just get everytbody vaccinated, then stay away in our little groups and I don't know where
they where they go and what they want to do.
Spike
Spike
Probably some of them are a bit like just wanna stay away, stay at home and all that, but I think there's a
big mixture of different opinions there that they some want to fix it.
Someone to stay away from, someone to fight it head on, and some people just don't know.
And I.
Spike
Harry
I.
I don't trust I don't trust the way that they deal with things.
I I don't know.
Any of them, so it it's very hard to trust somebody you don't know.
So if you know if if you got – if you know - if there's somebody you know and they're they're your best
mate in the world, you know what makes him tick, what makes him click, but all you see is Boris come
out and go.
This is what's going to happen, and duh duh duh duh duh
And then you go, I don't know anymore then, than I did this morning so.
There's a massive feeling of worry and d’they, d’ - nobody knows what's going on 'cause it's never been
dealt with before.
Spike
Harry
I suppose.
Sometimes you when you're sitting there and you, you've got nothing going on.
I I don't know and then you you got the Internet but you you try to search up to see if you can get any
idea of then you just end up whirling yourself down a rabbit hole to confusion it and make yourself
paranoid and worried and all that and.
It's.
It's... umm..
Spike
Do you think there is a large sense of paranoia in the world in general at the moment?
Harry
With uh, not Just with Covid though with the whole like Black Lives Matter and obviously COVID-19 as
well and all the other little bits and bobs that are going on. Obviously I'm black, Black Lives Matter is a
huge huge thing and needs to be addressed 'cause it is worrying and it is, it is.
Targeting them.
Obviously, maybe, maybe because it's just like I've always been told it's you only get a snapshot of
what's happened, but.
We all breathe n.
Yeah.
Spike
Harry
Oh.. pffft
Uhm?
Where I work sounds funny, but it's the only place I can go where I've not.
It's not constantly going off, and you're not constantly - seeing it.
I don't.
At the beginning I thought the government would be able to do it and I trusted them, but I don't think I
do now.
No I don't.
I I worry about.
It starts at the bottom and work their way up, and vice versa.
Place and..
Spike
Do you have?
What did you have in your head when you said good people?
Harry
Not not to name no, because if I was totally honest, I look at the highlights like the headlines and I look
at them and I say, right.
I know a few names but I tried to zone myself out as much as possible for it's it just gets you a bit
depressed and all that and.
People, jobs, people, environments, people, health and well being and.
Animals and all that, and that that's what comes first to them.
Spike
Brilliant.
The next, my next headline was do you feel like the government?
Harry
Spike
Harry
Spike
Yeah.
Harry
I want.
To feel safe.
To feel.
I'd like to be able to go and have a meal without having to wear a mask, while walking through the
restaurant.
So basically I have a family that won't have to worry about this sort of stuff and.
He's he is the right leader 'cause he's gonna be gonna take care of us.
Spike
Excellent
Uhm?
Do you feel like the current future that you imagine for yourself is certain or stable?
Harry
When I was in secondary school, I used to take 100% gonna have kids but gonna Im gonna have fun first.
Go out with my mates driving, going to the pub's, going on Holidays, doing all that stuff. But now I-I I feel
that.
Spike
Harry
No, no no I don't.
Knowing what's happening and I like being in control of my life and knowing what I can do.
Mm! Do you think that someone or some people are responsible for this uncertainty or unstability?
Harry
Uhm?
Yes, but not intentionally some, so some intent, 50 50 some intentionally and some not intentionally.
Some people are.
Not wording what they say correctly, which makes people feel uncertain.
But
Never giving you a uh, lift up sounds really silly, but that's that's what I feel.
Spike
Place uh?
A name or an idea to who these people are that are doing it purposefully?
Harry
whhhh
Uhm?
I can place.
And quite enjoy the feeling of not having to do anything or not not being hardworking.
But not.
Having that push, you know, and they when y'oure suggested to your friend, friends and family.
No, no, we're gonna stay like this and it will never get back to normal huh?
Spike
These, uh?
Harry
oof
Shh
The top to the bottom of the scale, really, it's more like their.
Their mental mindset of how, how they feel, how they want to go about their life and all that.
And sometimes it's just bringing other people down by telling them.
Basically, put back into somebody said there is hope, but that's no no.
Spike
Harry
I don't know.
Spike
Do you think that uncertainty was always as present to the extent that it currently is?
Harry
Oo, phour!
Um... No, but that could have something to do with the fact that I am older.
I was at UM.
And I haven't been to Birmingham much and I don't really know the people there.
It's like if it was us maybe somebody bought the coffee or tea or something like that, or some money or
something like that.
You know, but they just weren't interested there, so they seem more isolated than us and UN even
more unsure.
The IF that is where we will go, and it's going to be hard for us all to get back to helping people.
Spike
Is that because of the?
Harry
Uh.
It might have been the time it could have been the geography I I don't know 'cause obviously down in
devon I've always thought this might be just because I live here, but I've always thought we rather
friendly.
And umm
I mean when I said hello to this these people they just ignored me, they dont out here so it's like. You –
you sometimes think maybe its just because where it is, maybe the timing, the cou- the people that you
met, at that point, but yeah so It could be a mixture of both
Spike
Mm, Excellent
And.
Finally.
Harry
Uhm?
Because.
It is on it's uncertainty that I suppose it's part of life, really, you can't.
If you uncertain about someit, there's not much you can do about it, really.
I I guess.
Some talk to people about it and then in your head or with that person, discuss how am I gonna get this
right?
How am I gonna?
Sort out the uncertainty.
And...
Spike
Brilliant.
Harry
