Alright.

That's just about set up, I think.

Are you?

Are you ready?

Harry

I'm all ready hang on, let me just turn this watch off 'cause you don't like going off through the err...

Im a bit nervous I have to say.

Spike

S’alright there's no pressure.

Harry

If I mess up.

There's no restart, is there?

Spike

There's - we can't restart the entire thing 'cause it's your reaction to the questions,

Harry

Yeah...

Spike

but it is just a conversation that's just there so I can look back at the conversation.

Harry

Yeah...

Spike

Don't worry about it, it's got no...

Harry
Yeah...

Spike

overbearing -- anything.

Harry

That’s brilliant

Spike

Yeah, you okay? You alright? yeah, OK?

Here we go.

What's your name?

Harry

My name is Harry Addicott.

Spike

Where are you from?

Harry

I'm for bishopsteignton.

Spike

What were your neighbors like growing up?

Harry

Well, my neighbors, they were - - friendly, supportive and they were always there - helping out.

Spike

Here’s the one that's a bit vague, but you can go anywhere you want with ah...

What are you uncertain about?

Harry

Oo what am I uncertain about.

I'm uncertain about.

How well I'll do in my field of work because I've been there for seven months and sometimes you get
some questions that throw it in.

You get a bit.

Uncertain about whether you know them or not.

A bit, sometimes oof-

If I don't get this and I'm not gonna pass my course and it's quite, it's quite uncert- it's quite unnerving
uncerta- it can make you feel uncertain and uneasy.

Spike

What's the course that you're Doing?

Harry

I'm doing a land based engineering course level 2 City and Guilds qualification.

Spike

Excellent and what do you think you want to do when you go - off that course?

Or well, I when I get off that course, I'd like to go on to the Level 3 one, which means then I get a better
skills card for it.

And but I have to pass my tests 1st and to get through it once I'm not allowed to go onto that course and
then hopefully I can go off and venture out into the world and do different parts of my trade elsewhere.

Would use those qualifications.

Spike

Would you consider the world certain or uncertain?

Harry

Totally uncertain

Spike

at the moment?

Harry

Yeah,

Spike

And why do you think this is?

Harry

Um - There's a lot of questions in the world that

All being left unanswered, there's a lot of politics that won't tell us stuff and feel like they're hiding
things away.

There's a lot of umm-

Uncertainty with if we are ever going to get out of this lockdown with covid that we're in and...
If.. Er if there’s something that could be more sinister.

Also there behind it, there's so many.

Different things that could happen.

It's quite it's quite scary, and being a - being a young young person in the world, I think that.

You want to know that in the future you'll be able to go out with your mates enjoy life and.

Raise families and 'ave, ‘ave

‘ave fun, Basically it's quite -

worrying

There's a.

There's a feeling of not knowing what's in that-

What's in the future?

Spike

You said there was something... you felt there could be something sinister.

Behind it, what did you mean by?

Harry

That I I meant like.

We've had this Covid for-

Over a year now.

And it seems like every time we get somewhere and there seems to be a little bit of good news struck
out into the into the into the into the world into the people that they shove it away and say no, no, no,
no, there's gonna be.

There's something else is going to happen and.

We could have this that the other in it.

It it worries you as if to say -

Is it threatening people?

Is it 'cause it's killed

10 people so far?

Or like the last couple of days you like oo.. but then you don't know?

'cause we're not experts.

On sides n all that

Spike

you said they who was they?

Harry

They I, I think is the government and the scientists.

The Conservatives - Laybor all of them.

And then the scientists are behind them, giving their advice and their opinion on it.

And it's.

I don't know.

I've never met any of them, so I don't know what.

They like and it worries me.

That.. I don't know what their intentions are and what their plans are really.

Spike

What do you believe their intentions could be to do that?

Harry

Like that last thing which I I don't know 'cause I don't know what their - end game is their end result.

Their -Hope their - anything like that.

It feels quite like we lost almost, you know you had you know how like you had the the the the 1st and
the Second World War and it was the the achi- aim of that was to beat the the the Germans in the first
world war and the Nazis and the second one was to beat them and make sure that we weren't
suppressed by them whereas.

With this it's like.

Sometimes there are.

We gotta beat Covid but then it's like some people who seems they don't want to.

They want to just get everytbody vaccinated, then stay away in our little groups and I don't know where
they where they go and what they want to do.

And obviously like I said, I'm not an expert, so it's quite.

It's quite nerve wracking and stuff like that, yeah?

Spike

So do you think that?

Err - The government, some of them don't want to.

Cure or defeat it?

Spike

I'd say they.

Probably some of them are a bit like just wanna stay away, stay at home and all that, but I think there's a
big mixture of different opinions there that they some want to fix it.

Someone to stay away from, someone to fight it head on, and some people just don't know.

And I.

I I that's probably about as much as I can say about that one.

Spike

Do you trust the government?

Harry

Not really, no.

I think that they’re errr.

I.

I don't trust I don't trust the way that they deal with things.

I I don't know.

Any of them, so it it's very hard to trust somebody you don't know.

So if you know if if you got – if you know - if there's somebody you know and they're they're your best
mate in the world, you know what makes him tick, what makes him click, but all you see is Boris come
out and go.

This is what's going to happen, and duh duh duh duh duh

And then you go, I don't know anymore then, than I did this morning so.

There's a massive feeling of worry and d’they, d’ - nobody knows what's going on 'cause it's never been
dealt with before.

Spike

Would you use the word?

Conspiracy when referring to these things.

Harry

I I probably would now because before I I I wouldn't.

'cause I wasn't really a huge believer in conspiracy theories and anything with that, but.

Now I'm a bit more like- mmm

I suppose.

Sometimes you when you're sitting there and you, you've got nothing going on.

You think more about it then you go oof

I I don't know and then you you got the Internet but you you try to search up to see if you can get any
idea of then you just end up whirling yourself down a rabbit hole to confusion it and make yourself
paranoid and worried and all that and.

It's.

It's... umm..

Yeah, it's a bit worrying.

Spike

Do you think there is a large sense of paranoia in the world in general at the moment?

Harry

Yes massively I I I do I think.

With uh, not Just with Covid though with the whole like Black Lives Matter and obviously COVID-19 as
well and all the other little bits and bobs that are going on. Obviously I'm black, Black Lives Matter is a
huge huge thing and needs to be addressed 'cause it is worrying and it is, it is.

It is scary, scary thought that.

No matter what color you are, but it is black.

People are getting targeted by the police.

Almost saying ‘we're the law.

You've got to abide by us and it shouldn't be like that it should be.

We all live on this planet.

We all need to be treated equally, but it doesn't sit.

It seems like they just keep.

Targeting them.

Obviously, maybe, maybe because it's just like I've always been told it's you only get a snapshot of
what's happened, but.

Y-It it's violence so, and I don't like that.

I think everybody needs to be treated equally because we're all humans.

We all breathe n.

We all eat, we all drink.

We all do the same -- thing so.

Yeah.

Spike

Is there any authority that you trust currently?

Harry

Oh.. pffft

Uhm?

Where I work sounds funny, but it's the only place I can go where I've not.

It's not constantly going off, and you're not constantly - seeing it.

I don't.

No, I have to be honest.

At the beginning I thought the government would be able to do it and I trusted them, but I don't think I
do now.

I think I'm more.

Worried - I feel bad for them as well.

I would want out Boris.

His job has a horrible job but um..

No I don't.

I I don't trust any of them.

I I worry about.

The authority, because it it.

It starts at the bottom and work their way up, and vice versa.

It it's just a huge worrying.

Place and..

You've got people that are power hungry.

So you've got good people that want to make everybody equal.

Everybody feel safe, you've got lots of different people in the world that are gonna react differently and
try to have different forms of power you know.

Spike

Do you have?

What did you have in your head when you said good people?

A select group of people?

Harry

Not not to name no, because if I was totally honest, I look at the highlights like the headlines and I look
at them and I say, right.

I know a few names but I tried to zone myself out as much as possible for it's it just gets you a bit
depressed and all that and.

But I have an image of the people that I'd like.

There's a lot of good people the ones that worry about.

People, jobs, people, environments, people, health and well being and.

Animals and all that, and that that's what comes first to them.

Spike

Brilliant.

The next, my next headline was do you feel like the government?

Certainly I feel like we've covered that.

Harry

Haha - Yes, yes.

Spike

What do you want for your future?

Harry

What do I want with my future?

Spike

Yeah.

Harry

oof, that's a very good question.

I want.
To feel safe.

To feel.

Happy not that I don't feel happy, but more.

The fact that I would like my- fffff

I'd like to be able to go and have a meal without having to wear a mask, while walking through the
restaurant.

And I'd like to be able to.

So basically I have a family that won't have to worry about this sort of stuff and.

That can look at leaders and go.

He's he is the right leader 'cause he's gonna be gonna take care of us.

Spike

Excellent

Uhm?

Do you feel like the current future that you imagine for yourself is certain or stable?

Harry

No, I don’t, I think.

When I was in secondary school, I used to take 100% gonna have kids but gonna Im gonna have fun first.
Go out with my mates driving, going to the pub's, going on Holidays, doing all that stuff. But now I-I I feel
that.

This can be very difficult and that people.

Everybody is going to have to change their reality of.

What they wanted to do?

Spike

Do you have an idea of what you might change that to?

Harry

No, no no I don't.

I'm sa- which worries me because I like.

Knowing what's happening and I like being in control of my life and knowing what I can do.

What I can't do.

What I strive to do.

Spike

Mm! Do you think that someone or some people are responsible for this uncertainty or unstability?

Harry

Uhm?

Yes, but not intentionally some, so some intent, 50 50 some intentionally and some not intentionally.
Some people are.

Not wording what they say correctly, which makes people feel uncertain.

But

You got other people.

Who were just being?

Like to just tearing you down really and.

Never giving you a uh, lift up sounds really silly, but that's that's what I feel.

Spike

It's alright if you can't, can you?

Place uh?

A name or an idea to who these people are that are doing it purposefully?

Harry

whhhh

Uhm?

I can place.

For you I can place.

The type of person, if that's err any good?

The types of people that.

Seem like they wanna be.

Isolated and alone.

And quite enjoy the feeling of not having to do anything or not not being hardworking.

But not.

Having that push, you know, and they when y'oure suggested to your friend, friends and family.

Or we could, uh, we're gonna be alright trying to give yourself some.

Hope reaaly

That they're the ones that are.

They're telling you

No, no, we're gonna stay like this and it will never get back to normal huh?

They are the types of people, I couldn’t place a name or anything.

Spike

These, uh?

People who don't want to change and be isolated.

Where do you think they are in the system?

Harry

oof

I think theyre anywhere Really, they could be anywhere from.

Shh

The top to the bottom of the scale, really, it's more like their.

Their mental mindset of how, how they feel, how they want to go about their life and all that.

And sometimes it's just bringing other people down by telling them.

The opposite to what you're trying to re--

Basically, put back into somebody said there is hope, but that's no no.

I know I don't like that 'cause I want it to stay this way.

Spike

Why do you think they would want it to stay that way?

Harry

I don't know.

I think maybe it's because.

That they like not.

Not not being not having to go, it's then go to work.

Maybe they like not having to do that if if they feel.

Vulnerable outside of outside of their house?

Then maybe they like it when everybody inside and not out and about and there's and they feel they're
safer, but which is perfectly fine, but it's not nice for other people to hear that you're never gonna get
back to normality or anything like that.

Spike

Do you think that uncertainty was always as present to the extent that it currently is?

Harry

Oo, phour!

Um... No, but that could have something to do with the fact that I am older.

I am working, so I'm seeing more of the world.

I'll, I'll give you an example if that's alright.

I was at UM.

I was up in Birmingham about.

Three or four weeks ago.

And they're doing some work up there.

And I haven't been to Birmingham much and I don't really know the people there.

But I know that if I'd seen somebody down- here.

I hadn't seen anybody else.

There was a homeless man standing on the street.

S- I say standing, he was like sitting on the street.

And it was, nobody was interested in helping this man.

He was just sitti-

It's like if it was us maybe somebody bought the coffee or tea or something like that, or some money or
something like that.

Reassurance speaking to the guy anything.

You know, but they just weren't interested there, so they seem more isolated than us and UN even
more unsure.

And they it was.

I felt unsure in the population.

The IF that is where we will go, and it's going to be hard for us all to get back to helping people.

Spike
Is that because of the?

Do you think that was because of the?

Geography or the time.

Harry

Uh.

It might have been the time it could have been the geography I I don't know 'cause obviously down in
devon I've always thought this might be just because I live here, but I've always thought we rather
friendly.

We've rather polite to everyone.

And umm

I mean when I said hello to this these people they just ignored me, they dont out here so it's like. You –
you sometimes think maybe its just because where it is, maybe the timing, the cou- the people that you
met, at that point, but yeah so It could be a mixture of both

Spike

Mm, Excellent

And.

Finally.

Do you try and establish certainty or control uncertainty?

Harry

Uhm?

No, I don't try to control it.

Because.

It is on it's uncertainty that I suppose it's part of life, really, you can't.

If you uncertain about someit, there's not much you can do about it, really.

You just gotta kinda.

I I guess.

I guess I'd say some people deal with it.

Some talk to people about it and then in your head or with that person, discuss how am I gonna get this
right?

How am I gonna?
Sort out the uncertainty.

And...

But sometimes you just have to say youre uncertain.

Spike

Brilliant.

That's perfect place to end it.

Thank you very much harry!

Harry

Youre very welcome.

I hope that was okay.
