WORLD BUILDING :

Roche sur Mer

Story about young French farmer named Avenir, literally means future/tomorrow and
his whole relationship with his father, Charlie or Charles during retaliation and
persecution during world war. They living in a small town Roche sur Mer, located 30
miles north of the city of Rouen, Normandy northern France. At that time France was
divided into two German occupations, Zone Occupee in the north with Paris as its
capital and Zone Libre in the south with Vichy as the capital.

The city of Roche sur Mer has extensive arable fields, including wheat and potato fields.
The city is a food supplier for the greater southern city of Rouen. The city is also a key
link between the city of Rouen and the northern coastline of Normandy France.

The north side of town is a large wheat field where Avy and her father live.

Many boys went to war in 1940 and many of them never returned home, including
marion's older brother, Jean. During this occupation, regulations were implemented by
the German army such as switching time zones, listening to foreign radios, gatherings
are prohibited, prohibiting public speaking, prohibiting freedom of expression, and
enforcing curfews and routine searches.

Most of the population are farmers and traders, many of them are troubled and the
rules of food ration make hunger occur in this small town.

Yet their following nightmares are going away with allied surprise invasion of France,
called D-day tomorrow.
19 years old French farmer from a small town, Roche sur Seine during german occupied
France. Part of underground young French resistance. Avy always thought that his father is
a useless men wasting time by not participating during this war, moreover, his father
disapproval on behalf of avy’s interest to join the army affected their already lacked
relationship. Avy and his father struggle to find identity and trust in their relationship until
the D-day comes tomorrow.

Avy's father, a first world war veteran, survived despite deformed body, losing one leg
and half of his body being injured. Avy's father was quiet and didn't talk much differently
than Avy, which made him think his father wasn't a patriot. Charles thought that war was
not a heroic thing because he himself had experienced it.
Marion de Bouchard
Avy's lover, this 19 year old girl is the
second child of madame Louise de
Bouchard. Marion is someone who is
'sensible’through Avy's relationship with
her father even though Avy doesn't bother
her. Saddened by the loss of her older
brother, marion joins the young resistance
club.

Colonel Ernst Göth


Commander officer of the German army
stationed downtown. He has a bad temper,
is impatient and rude. His right eye was
stabbed by a man from the Warsaw ghetto
which led him to order the entire ghetto to
burn in 1943.
Claude Ferrand

Friend of Avy's father in World


War 1, owns a bakery boulangerie
de mer in the middle of town and is
a pioneer of resistance in this city.
His shop became the city's
resistance base in the basement that
his grandfather had built during the
Franco-Prussian war.

Madame Louise de Bouchard


Is a rich woman who has a big house in
the middle of the city. She is a
resistance spy, and is the member who
hates Germany the most because her
eldest son, Jean died in the war in
1940. She prefers the city burned down
rather than given to the enemy.
René Ferrand

Claude's only child, he went to school at


the Sorbonne before Paris was
bombarded by Germany. Now he works
to help his father and assemble a radio
that can pick up de gaulle radio signals.

Hugo Dubois

Young resistance leader consisting of


him, Avy, Marion, Pierre and Rene.
Hugo's wife, Isabelle, was a victim of war
and was sent to Dachau.

Pierre Poulin

Is a member of the young resistance who


is willing to sacrifice when Avy and
Marion almost caught. Pierre was
interrogated but managed to escape and
disappeared.

René : named after René Descartes, french philosopher
Claude : named after Claude Monet, french painter
Hugo : named after Victor Hugo, french writer
Louise : named after Louise Mallard, french fictional character
Pierre : named after Pierre Curie, french physicist
Ernst : named after Amon Göth, austrian nazi commander
