Wake up- When you are in a public place, such as the work force or school, it is
important to wake yourself from your day-dreams and focus. Although it may seem
desirable to think about your plans after school or work, what you feel like doing, or
something made up in your mind, you need to remember that focus is crucial. It is
important to pay attention and save the spaced-thinking for later when you aren't in the
middle of something important.
2
Keep fantasies to a minimum- Although it is always fun to think up fantastical things,
like scenarios with your favorite actors on the television show or movie you often
obsess over, or the things you want to happen, like a promotion or a date with someone
you like, it is necessary to keep the day-dreaming to a strict minimum. Don't let your
fantasies rule your life and make you lose touch with what is real and what is not.
3
Value what you have- Dreaming up things we want or need is acceptable sometimes,
but other times, it can make us feel foolish and upset because we do not have those
things. Fantasizing about dates with people and better jobs and higher grades in school
is alright, and can sometimes be counted as positive stress- or self-motivation to do
something you truly want to do- but it can sometimes put you down. Day-dreaming
about having large sums of money when you are poor can truly make you feel badly
about how you are, for example. Don't dream up thoughts about someone you are not.
Treasure what you have, what is given to you, and who you are. Appreciate the simple
things in life and their value. Keep this in mind to feel positive.
4
Accept that you are who you are- Sometimes, you may day-dream to escape reality
mainly about who you are. Many people who day-dream may think up fantasy situations
where they are prettier, better, and overall better-off than they truly are in the real
world. Often you may get caught up in this up to the point where you start to think
negatively of yourself and you have an unhappy medium. Instead of doing this, put your
fantasy dreaming to a halt and begin to do things to make yourself feel worthy again,
like writing down one great thing about who you are each day, and stopping ALL
negative thoughts and mantras before they can pass through your mind. You are who
you are, and dreaming about who you'll NEVER be will not change anything!
5
Take action- If you feel like you can change something around you, do not hesitate
from doing so! Picturing it in your mind for a little while when you are not sure about
how to go about doing things is alright, but not taking any action to change your life and
just day-dreaming about it won't change a thing. Face reality and tackle each hurdle to
changing your life one step and one day at a time. Even if changing certain things in
your life may be hard, it is better to try to fix them and make happiness for yourself
than picturing it in your mind and getting nowhere at all.
6
Stop unreal fantasies and obsessions- Conjuring up unrealistic fantasies all the time, or
often, is not a great thing to do. It can easily make you loose touch with reality and only
picture things in your mind that will truly never happen. Like, for example, becoming
obsessed with Harry Potter and day-dreaming about being a part of the series in school
or even at work. This may sound silly, but it is not easy to do. Many people use Role-
Play and get extremely obsessed with these situations in manga, novels, or movies up
to the point where it takes over their lives. Day-dreaming is not always acceptable, but
becoming transfixed on strangely impossible things is not a good time-spending thing to
do either. One large step in facing reality is nixing the completely unrealistic things in
the world- like being a manga character or ninja or someone with fantastical powers-
from your mind most of the time to avoid letting it take over your life.
Be clear minded about the steps of action you are going to take in order for you to
reach your goal, we all want to be better, but some times, we need to control how much
of that "better" should be accept to be true. If you want to change your skin for the
better, take into account the money you need to spend, articles you need to research on
your situation, doctors you are going have find to cure your problems, changes in your
sleep and diet. There are realistic approaches to reaching your goal, when you have
these in mind, you are likely to tone your dream down to a possible measurement.

Edit Tips

Live each day like it is your last. You wouldn't be simply living in a day-dream fantasy
world on your last day on the Earth, would you? Spend each day like it is your last, and
spend it in-touch with reality.
Making new friends with others helps avert day-dreaming. Those who are reclusive and
somewhat socially impaired from the lack of social contact and relationships often have
much time to think and keep to themselves, which is poor for mental health. Get out
there and make new friends, and keep yourself active socially!
Always keep in mind that some things, like creating yourself as a manga character in a
manga series, will simply never happen. Making this firm in your mind will keep
fantastical, impossible thoughts that make you unable to face reality to a minimum.
Associating with others is very important. It can easily make you avoid day-dreaming.
Talking and chatting casually with friends or co-workers at your job or at school is a
sure-fire way to stay focused and stop thinking about distant things in your mind.

Edit Warnings

If you feel as though your thoughts are taking a more seriously dangerous turn- such as
suicide, murder, etc.- seek professional help as soon as possible, and do not turn to
guides such as these to deal with severe mental health problems.
