Present simple with future intention



Future actions dealing with timetables: trains,
planes, etc. times.
My train leaves at 5:30.
Present continuous with future
intention

When we talk about fixed future plans:
Sally is meeting Sam at 2 p.m.

When we talk about a plan which is 100% organized,
an engagement,…, we know when and where:
I’m flying to London next week. (I have the plane
ticket, I know day, time…)

To ask about someone’s plans:
What are you doing tonight?
Will

An spontaneous decision:
Wait, I will help you.

Opinion, hope, uncertainty or suposition related to the
future:
He will probably come back tomorrow.

A promise:
I promise (you) I’ll help my brother.

A future action we cannot influence on:
It will rain tomorrow.

1st conditional:
If I arrive late, I´ll call you.

Possibilities:
Maybe I´ll go to the cinema tonight.

Predictions and probabilities:
I think the economy will improve next year.
Be going to

Intentions or plans which are not fixed:
I´m going to clean the windows later.
David is going to paint the living room this week. (don’t
have an exact day.)

Predictions (you have an evidence):
I think it’s going to rain later. (There’s an evidence)
I think it will rain later. (My opinion, feeling)

For new year’s resolutions:
This year I’m going to pass my English exam.
