C
DC (Concorde Descent Calculator) is module added to CPS-X and only
available from FS9/9.1, FSX and P3D.

This module is the software version of tables used by Air-France when

exploiting Concorde.

CDC is able to calculate deceleration descent from supersonic cruise level to any
subsonic step.
In new version (689), CDC is able to calculate anticipated descent for linear hol-
ding.

Associated with fuel management module (CFM), you are in possession of the most
advanced tool for Concorde Pilot.

Installation

The installation is made during the CPS-X install. You can’t see it because it is
performed without user handling.


Its principle is quite simple.
A new menu is added into FS9/9.1, FSX or P3D through which you will be able
to launch CDC and another module which is the Vol.2. Manual object.

The only way to check if CDC is installed, is to launch FS (all versions) and have a
look to the menu bar.
FS9/9.1 should have a new menu CPS-X
FSX should have a new submenu of Addons named CPS-X
P3D should have a new submenu of Addons named CPS-X

CPS-X menu has 2 sub menu:

CDC. Which is described in this manual.
CFM. Which is described in Vol.2. manual

Let us now see how to use CDC.

Manual

You can see below the both FS menus.

The submenu “Descent_Calculator” or “Descent Claculatort” launches CDC.

The Interface

It is just a little window which may be launched with CDC opens.

As CFM, CDC can be closed and reopened at any time. Generally CDC is used
only once during a flight.

1 Flight Mode. This setting is the same than CPS-X when exporting the flight to
Concorde. It may be changed here.
2 Cruise FL. Type here the flight level at which TOD will occur.
3 Linear holding panel. Hidden when CDC is launched. The linear hold has been
discussed in CPS-X manual. More information further in this volume.
4 Cruise FL Temp. Temperature data inside comes from CPS-X. It may be
changed here.
5 Average Wind Comp. Wind component data inside comes from CPS-X. It may
be changed here.
6 Target Waypoint. Select in the list the waypoint at which descent finishes.
7 Distance Shift. Distance shift before or after target waypoint at which descent
finishes.
8 Target FL. Target flight level at end of descent including distance shift if any.
9 Descent Speed. Select in the list the descent speed required. Air-France used 3
speeds: 325, 350 and 380 kt. usually, 350 kt. was selected.
10 Compute Descent. Runs Descent calculations.

11 Result Area. The TOD will be displayed here when computed.

First Calculation

Example: Simple descent.

Flight KLAX (Los-Angeles CA) - PHOG (Kahului HI).
Cruise FL at TOD: FL550.
Target Waypoint: 25 nm before DRAYK.
Target FL: FL290.
Descent Speed: 350 kt.

Here how settings look like.

CPS-X has sent Cruise temp: -56.3°C (ISA + 0.2) and average wind
component is headwind 14 kt. (-14).
The Cruise FL range in the list is: 600 – 470.

When done just click “Compute Descent”.

The result area displays: TOD 158 nm before DRAYK.

That’s all.

Now let us try with descent speed 380 kt.

Select 380 in the descent speed list.

6
M A N U A L

Then click “Compute Descent”.

The result area now shows: TOD = 133 nm before DRAYK.

CAUTION: When changing data and before clicking

“Compute Descent”, the result isn’t modified.

Subsonic Flight or Descent

Example: Subsonic descent.

Flight: Same as previous example.
Cruise FL: Subsonic step at FL290.
Target Waypoint: DENNS
Distance Shift: No
Target FL: 12000 ft. before speed reduction 250 kt at 10000 ft.
Descent Speed: 350 kt.

See next page the interface after shutting off and reopening.

7
M A N U A L

Subsonic has been selected at Flight Mode.

The Cruise FL range in the list has changed it is now: 550 – 50.
You can see Linear holding panel in no more enabled. Because there is no linear
holding during subsonic descent.

When computed, the TOD is 54 nm before DENNS.

8

Descent with linear holding.

Now have a look on a descent with linear holding. (See Vol.1 CPS-X Manual for
more information on linear holding).

Specific setting concerning linear holding are located on the linear holding panel only
available with supersonic flight mode.

When Linear holding is checked, the specific parameters are shown.

1 Linear holding. Can be checked here if linear holding is required by ATC inflight. If
linear holding is planned in CPS-X, the check box status will be in accordance.
2 Linear Holding Delay. Select value in the list according to instruction of the ATC.
Range: 16-45 min.
3 Supersonic Grnd Speed. Select speed reading the INS.
Range: 1000 – 1250 kt.

When Linear holding is checked, the “Target FL” range becomes: FL370 - 270

Example: Supersonic descent with linear holding.

Flight: Same as previous example.
Cruise FL: FL560.
Target Waypoint: DRAYC
Distance Shift: No
Target FL: FL320
Descent Speed: 350 kt.
Holding Delay by ATC: 25 min.
Supersonic Grnd Speed: 1180 kt. (Read on INS unit).

Here is CDC set before descent.

9
M A N U A L

Once computed the result is now wrote in red font.

TOD will be 147 nm before DUSAC which is the waypoint preceding DRAYK.
CDC adds “anticipated descent by 21 min 15 sec.

The anticipated descent will generate a delay at arrival of 25 min. as expected.

Conclusions

As for CFM, the CDC manual is quite light volume.
This tool used with CFM and CPS-X constitutes an incomparable suite of
tools.

I hope with the help of CPS-X, CFM and CDC, your flights will be better and
that
you will plan those flight easily and accurately.
Keep in mind this product has needed thousands hour of hard work for your
pleasure and my passion for flight simulation.
If you find this product interesting, you can donate as you wish using
Paypal button of the main interface of CPS-X.

So I will be able to improve it again and again.
