MEMORANDUM

To: Students with a Background in Education

From: Alexandra Georgiton
Date: March 15, 2020
Subject: Briefing on Humanities Grant Opportunity

Proposal Overview
I have recently encountered a grant proposal (attached below) that is specifically geared
towards the education field. The National Endowment for Humanities is looking for
government entities, institutions of higher education, or a few other groups in related
spheres to create a proposal. The focus of the proposal would be to “administer a
nationwide project to advance the role of humanities at community colleges.” The NEH
is looking for organizations that will specifically focus on helping students to bridge the
gap between cultures using the humanities.

Proposal Organization
Although it is not specified, from the nature of this proposal I would suggest a length of
approximately 3-8 pages. Making a longer proposal is likely fine if it is warranted. It can
be assumed that the most appropriate organization of this proposal will follow the
standard format. It should include a summary, main body, and attachments. For more
information on how to follow this format, use the document attached below.

Proposal Evaluation
The main criteria this proposal will be evaluated on is the ability of the writer to clearly
demonstrate diverse cultures (countries, people, intellectual culture, etc.) to students
from the United States. NEH is looking for an organization that can utilize the power of
the humanities effectively. One optional approach the NEH suggests that highlights this
is, “Applications might also investigate how Americans have approached and attempted
to surmount seemingly unbridgeable cultural divides or examine the ideals of civility and
civic discourse that have informed this quest.”
Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have about how to best format the
proposal if you wish to pursue the proposal with your affiliated organization.
