Guitar,It’s Composition Parts with The Functions

1.Introduction
Hi, my name is Reza Agung Nugraha. In this material I would like to share a little
information about guitar musical instruments, starting from the definition, the types of guitars to
the parts and functions. Before going to the core of the material, it would be nice if we know first
general definition of a guitar musical instrument.According to the Wikipedia website [ CITATION
idw20 \l 1033 ], written that guitar is a stringed musical instrument that is played by plucking,
generally using the fingers or the plectrum/pick. The guitar is composed of a main body part with
a solid neck where the six strings are attached. Guitar bodies are usually made of various types of
wood with strings made of nylon or steel. However, some modern guitars today are made of
polycarbonate material.
The reason why I chose this topic is because I like to play the guitar even though I can
only play it a little. I also want to be more deep and understand the part of the guitar and its
functions. Another reason is that many of us just enjoy playing the guitar without knowing the
names of the composers of the guitar, so that it becomes a complete musical instrument that can
be used properly.
Let's go back to the general definition ,guitar is a stringed instrument that is played by
plucking the strings using fingers and a pick. Then do we already know what types of guitars are
now available and are widely used by people out there? Do we also know the names of the parts
that are used. arrange the guitar so that it is formed in such a way that it becomes a complete
guitar? That way, the next explanation is about the types of guitars and the components that
make up the guitar with it’s functions. To make it easier to identify the type of guitar, I chose to
describe an acoustic guitar model for the example.

a.Types Of Guitar
Nowadays, the guitar has developed into many types. In general, the guitar is divided into
two types, namely the acoustic model guitar and the electric guitar. For the types themselves, I
will explain the explanation below:
*Acoustic Guitar

According to Wikipedia, written that the acoustic guitar is a type of guitar that produces sound
from the vibrations of guitar strings that are transmitted through the saddle and bridge where the
strings are tied into the body as a sound chamber. The sound in the body of this guitar will
resonate with the wood of the guitar body. The type and quality of wood and the type of strings
used will affect the sound produced by an acoustic guitar. [ CITATION htt201 \l 1033 ]
Acoustic guitars themselves have various types which include the following:
• Steel-string guitar
• Classical Guitar
• Flamenco guitar
• Resonator Guitar
• Steel Guitar
• 12 string guitar
*Electric Guitar

An electric guitar is a type of guitar that uses several "pickups" to convert the sound or vibration
of the guitar strings into an electric current which will be amplified using a set of amplifiers and
a loud speaker. The sound of an electric guitar is generated from the vibration of the guitar
strings hitting the coils on the guitar body which is commonly called a "pick up". Sometimes the
signal that comes out of the pickup is changed electronically with the guitar effect as reverb or
distortion.[ CITATION htt202 \l 1033 ]
Electric guitars themselves have various types which include the following:
• Solid Body Guitar
• Semi-Acoustic Guitar
• Electric-Acoustic Guitar
• Archtop guitar

b.Guitar composing part

The guitar certainly has its constituent parts until it is completely formed. Even though it has
various types, but in general the constituent parts of the guitar have in common. And to make it
easier to explain, here I have chosen an acoustic guitar as an example for me to describe some of
its constituent parts.
1.Headstock

Headstock is the topmost of all guitar part which made of wood. The headstock function is as a
place for the tuner/tuning peg ,nut and there is usually a guitar brand logo as a marker.
2.Tuning peg

The tuning peg is located at the guitar headstock which made of metal and functions as a
regulator of the high and low notes.

3.Nut

The nut is in the center of the guitar head. The nut is usually made of plastic and functions as
a buffer for the guitar strings at the top.

4.Neck

vector-6083660.jpg)
The neck of the guitar functions as a finger board/fretboard which is usually made of wood.
On a guitar that is quite expensive, usually an iron has been planted in the neck to support the
neck so that it is stronger and not easily bent.
5.Fretboard or Fingerboard

This part can be called the fretboard or fingerboard. The flatboard functions as a place for the
frets and fingers when played.

6.Fret

The fret is a slim metal that runs along the finger board which functions to divide or shape the
notes on the guitar.

7.Strings

mechanism_p02_01.jpg)
The strings are one of the most important parts of the guitar, because they are the source of
the sound that is reflected off the guitar body’s, so that the guitar can produce rhythm and
sound.

8.Position marker

markers.jpg)
The position marker serves to make it easier for us to determine what fret number we will
press. Usually this marker is placed on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th fret with one dot. While the
position marker which has two dots is placed on the 12th fret, 15th, 17th, 19th and 21st fret.

9.Body

Apart from the strings, the body of the guitar is also the most important part of the guitar. On
an acoustic guitar, the body is usually made of wood that is wider at the bottom, thinnest in
the middle, and a bit thicker towards the top of the body. The wood used in the body of the
guitar also determines the degree of meritability of the resulting tone.Generally only high-end
manufacturers use the best type of wood, but cheaper manufacturers’ guitars sound good as
well, since sometimes they are built better. Generally, the denser, heavier the wood, the
deeper, richer the sound and sustain will be.
10.Ribs
Ribs is the nickname for the guitar body's side.
11.Sound Board
The sound board is the nickname for the front of the guitar body
12.Soundhole

A hole in the body of an acoustic guitar, or electro-acoustic guitar. The sound hole serves as a
place to accommodate the sound waves made by the strings and resonate in the body, leaving
the body. The acoustic guitar has a round sound hole.

13.Saddle

WEB.jpg)
A saddle has the same function as a nut, which is a guitar string's buffer. However, if the nut
is the top buffer string, the saddle is a buffer for the strings at the bottom.
14.Bridge

The bridge is one part of the guitar that functions to place the saddle as a buffer for the strings
at the bottom.
15.Pick Guard (Optional)

The pick guard has a function to protect the guitar from scratching the nails or chips when we
play the guitar.

16.Electrical Tuner (Optional)

Electrical tuners have a function to help and make it easier for us to standardize the sound of
the strings produced by the guitar. Usually this electric tuner is only found on guitars that
have a fairly high price.

3.Conclusion
There are so many guitar models that we can play today. Even so, the constituent
components are almost similar to each other. So when we look at the components of one guitar, it's the
same as knowing the components of all types of guitars that currently exist. After going through
reading session and understanding the material above that has been written regarding the general
definition of the guitar, various types of guitars to its constituent components, I hope we can all get a
deeper knowledge of the guitar. I, as the author, would like to express my deepest gratitude to the
readers who have read this material to completion.
