1. Four characteristics of a chordate: Pharyngeal gill slits, muscular, post-anal tail, notochord, and
dorsal, hollow nerve cord.

2. Vertebrates are a skeletal backbone that serve as support and envelopes the dorsal nerve
chord. One example from the aquatic classes is in the class myxini, a hagfish. Another example is
from the class petromyzontida, a lamprey.

3. A tetrapod includes air-breathing, terrestrial vertebrates with two sets of paired limbs. An
example from the class amphibia is the frogs. Another example from the class reptilia are the
lizards.
