Internet

With the Internet, you can access almost any type of information, communicate
with anyone else in the world, and much more.
You can do all this by connecting your computer to the Internet, which is also called
"going online". The most common way to connect is to use an ADSL connection with
a regular telephone line and a modem. The modem converts digital signals into
analog signals that are carried over telephone lines and converts analog signals into
digital signals for the computer.
To do this you need an Internet Service Provider, or ISP (e.g. Tim, Alice Libero,
Yahoo), The modem calls and connects to your ISP and you get a temporary IP
address that identifies your computer on the network. Then, the ISP sends your
request to another server in the chain, a Domain Name Server or DNS, which acts as
a sort of directory. Once the request has arrived. that is, after the digit of a site
address, or URL, the server retrieves the website and sends the correct data to your
computer. The Internet offers various services which can be divided into five broad
categories.
