Philosophy of Education

Education is often synonymous with learning and teaching, the three words being nearly

interchangeable or discussed in the same manner. Education, or rather in this instance teaching,

is a career where you become a lifelong learner. Being someone who is passionate about learning

new things and sharing new ideas with their students. The greatest hope is to instill the same

drive and willingness to learn into our students, that we have, in whatever amount of time we

have with them. This is done through meeting students at whatever level they come to us at,

providing them with differentiated instruction and supportive materials, when necessary. We

need to offer them hands-on learning experiences or choices when it comes to how they complete

their assignments. Let students play into their strengths so they can be proud of the work that

they put before us.

As a teacher it means expanding our own knowledge in both our content and instructional

strategies. Set the example by being willing to try new things and expand to include new

technology or methods of instruction when the old stuff might fail us. Adapt or be flexible when

unexpected things happen. Recognize your own mistakes instead of hiding our mistakes from

students because it shows them that even we are human and that not everyone succeeds with

everything all the time. We all fall and hopefully learn from our mistakes so we can correct them

for the next time. But most importantly to let them know that everything is a learning experience

and that this is one of the greatest parts about trying new things.
