DEFINITION OF TERMS

1. CT Scan- is an imaging method that uses x-rays to create pictures of cross section of the body
2. Grating sensation- is a movement of a joint affected by osteoarthritis may cause a crackling or
grating sensation called crepitus
3. Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI)- is a genetic disorder in which bones break easily.
4. Pathological Fracture- a bone broken, not by trauma alone, but so weakened by disease as to
break with abnormal ease.
5. Callus- bony deposits formed between and around the broken ends of a fractured bone during
healing.
6. Comminuted bone- crushed bones
7. Fibrin clot- a stringy insoluble protein produced by the action of thrombin on fibrinogen in the
clotting process.
8. Fracture- a traumatic injury to a bone in which the continuity of the bone tissue is broken.
9. Intraosseous- pertaining to the interior of the bone

11. Osteoblast- a bone-forming cell that is derived from the embryonic mesenchyme and during the
early development of the skeleton.
12. Ecchymosis- dark purple spot forms on your skin when blood leaks out of your blood vessels into
the top layer of your skin.
13. Osteoproginenitor cell- stem cells located in the bone that play a prodigal role in
bone repair and growth. These cells are the precursors to the more specialized bone
cells (osteocytes and osteoblasts) and reside in the bone marrow.
14. Cold spots- a sensory area in the skin that responds to a decrease in
temperature.
