Bridge to Terabithia is a Newberry Award Book because its main theme, friendship, is

wonderfully done, its use of foreshadowing is incredible, the characters were written perfectly,
and the setting is described outstandingly. The main concept of friendship is one of the best I've
seen, for example, on Page 90, you can see Jess and Leslie having fun, putting their minds out
there. The use of foreshadows was amazing as well. After a long absence and several days of
constant rain, Leslie and Jess finally arrive in Terabithia in Chapter 9. Jess tries to persuade
Leslie not to cross and go on to Terabithia, but she refuses. This foreshadows the climax. The
main characters were written perfectly. Jess is an outsider, who can't put his motives out to the
world. This is until Leslie came along, and under the ill-fitting mask of tradition, we will see the
true Jess. Finally, the setting. The setting is set in the 1970's rural Virginia, where you're shown
Jess's life on the farm, school, and the Kingdom of Teribithia itself. Even if the image showcases
simple structures, from the text, you can imagine the whole kingdom. In conclusion, its main
subject, friendship, is beautifully handled, the use of foreshadowing is incredible, it was a page-
turner; the two main characters were brilliantly written with rich dialogue, and the atmosphere
is presented superbly.
