are blocked by (apparent) cave-ins; the west and south
ways lead deeper down, into the Ash Lairs.
32. Hidden Niches. These three side corridors are
twenty feet deep and seem to be dead ends. However,
there is a secret door in the side of each, Very Hard
(-20) to detect, concealing a chamber. Inside of each
is what appears to be an eight-foot-tall suit of armor
(they are, of course, constructs). They each activate
when someone steps on the pressure plate in the main
corridor outside their niche. Trap: Hard (-10) to detect.
33. Tomb of Mutarak and Kestra. A counterweighted ,
six-inch thick stone door blocks entry to this tomb, Very
Hard (-20) to open (use Lock Pick skill to trigger the
counterbalance, causing the door to rise). As the door
rises, flames erupt in the tops of four iron torchieres in
the corners of the room. This chamber has two stone
sarcophagi, side by side, containing the remains of Lord
Mutarak and his wife. Both are Wights. If either lid is
moved, the door begins to close and lock: Sheer Folly
(-50) to open). Then a swarm of 10-100 large beetles
