IELTS SPEAKING CLASS

TOPIC: ROBOTS
PART I:
Students answer questions about themselves related to the topic.
1. Are you interested in robots? Why?
2. Did you like to watch cartoons about robots when you were a child?
3. Do you like robots to work at your home?
4. Do you want to take a car which robot is the driver?
PART II:
Students will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. They have one
minute to think about what they are going to say. They can make some notes to help
them if they wish.
Describe a domestic robot that you are using.

You should say:

What is this robot?

How often do you use it?

How can it help?

What difference it brings to your life.

PART III:
Students have a longer discussion on the topic. The examiner will ask them further
questions connected to the topic in Part 2.
1. The West sees robots menacing, Japan sees them helpful – how about you? Do you
think robots will cause unemployment in the future or make more jobs?
2. Do you think that robots will replace humans in the future? (advantages: save time,
produce more accurate and higher quality work, perform dangerous tasks;
disadvantages: increase unemployment, reduced human’s creativity; malfunctioning
robots, …)
3. Robotic surgery is a method to perform surgery using very small tools attached to a
robotic arm and a surgeon controls the robotic arm with a computer. How beneficial
do you think this is now and for the future of medicine? (less pain and blood loss,
quicker recovery, less scars, …)
4. What do you think AI (Artificial Intelligence) means?
