Does Culture Matters? Edward Morgan Forster. We find this work under the above title in his book named "Tow cheers for Democracy"
What he says: “Culture is a forbidden word” (satirical/sarcastic). The essay shows his love for the culture and traditions. He says that people
feel uncomfortable keeping "yesterday" in "today's" life. It takes vast space of their life's room. Today's life focuses on the "jump" and
they've, named it "moving on". They say our today is a gate way of tomorrow and the gate from which the stepped in in today, is closed
(Ironic! no?) because it the same gate they were considering yesterday as a gate way of brightness. People are closing the doors from
where their ilm o danishwari took birth. His love for culture is so much, he says that he has faith in culture (I believe faith is something which
is more powerful than any daleel and truth), and you know what happens when someone is totally sunk in love for something and their love
became faith?? They can not digest they can not bear even a tiniest thing, a line, a phrase, a word even a letter against it. The practically
example is given in essay that when Sir Richard terry whose specialty was madrigals commented sarcastically that either they can become
good humans or chroners" (chroner means someone who falsely show his talent and deep down he's lack of it) on some young musicians
and they couldn't bear this little thing, and they said some day they will destroy his traditional music they will defeat them in Music Industry.
And our writer couldn't bear this menace; he became upset that youngsters are so aggressive they're insulting our tradition. He's afraid of
that today's generation will forget the value of their ancestors work they will not know the importance of Racine (French poet), Cezanne (a
French artist/ painter,) Stravinsky (a Russian music composer). Yes I think that’s true or maybe we can call it human nature that people from
opposite generations are jealous of their artistic brethren. Mrs. Levis analyzed, noticed or maybe she just gave her point of view about the
today's novelists that they are aggressive against their elder collogues. They don't value them and their work. The traditional colors are
fading away, maybe they're not enjoying that gentle scent of traditional stuff, He wants that what has been communicated to us, we have to
communicate to the next generation Dante is a great Italian classic poet he's been forgetting, his lessons are been left somewhere behind in
the dust of time. He's become a test case nowadays. Our writer seems so much convinced with Mrs. Levis in the Essay, again he mentions
her name and talk about her book named "Babbitt” where she has written about a civilization where they had no traditions, nothing about
past except gossips. Writer’s Insecurity: EM Forster is afraid that someday today’s culture will be forgotten, it will be faded somewhere
behind the glasses of museums, and it will be closed in the shelves in the form of books, this called the fear of cultural extinction. Actually
this is not surprising in EM Forster’s essay, it is quite familiar in every nation’s representative’s, they passes through such sentimental
thoughts that their new generation is going to forget them, this psychological anxiety make them afraid and insecure about their heirs. Most
of the world’s younger generations adopt the new trends, they take advantage of new technology, and they try to explore the world. They
pick those things from their ancestors whom are acceptable and not so heavy to carry in the race of the nations, because the journey of life
is so exhausting and challenging, they can not bear the burden of dispensable traditions on their shoulders; EM Forster needs to understand
this. Appreciating, respecting, feeling proud on tradition is another thing and carrying that literature which is impropriate and hard to survive
in modern world, following such type of traditions, carrying past in the present will make nations lazy and tardy. There’s nothing permanent:
Writer understands that we can not force people to adopt the traditions but he believes that we who understands that thing should follow it
proudly so everyone willingly adopt it but is it possible? Will we be able to follow the past, it could be possible for some decades or centuries
but with the passage of time those waves of time will took it far away and it will be faded. Remembering the past and adopting the past are
two different things, when people realize that traditions are getting attritus they modify them and shaped them according to the time and
conditions, this is what survivors and flexible people do, so they can stay active in the world’s race. We the mature human beings always
remember the quote of Great Greek philosopher Heraclitus that change is the only reality in the nature nothing can be last long enough
except the change. Traditionalist/Revolutionist: This piece of writing by Sir EM Forster opens a vast field for debate that who are we
traditionalist or revolutionist? If we are truly hungry readers then after reading this essay this question will must arise in our minds that, is he
really wants from us to stick in the past on the name of traditions and stay behind the world? He recalls the names of old great artist and
shows his concern that upcoming generations will left behind them including us, they will not remember the our traditional stuff like clothes,
food, language, likes, dislikes, restrictions, festivals etc. Revolution is name of change, nowadays the term is mostly used for political,
religious changes or for those events which causes massacre. But reality is revolution is the name of every change, this change can be in
individual thought, actions. The revolution we are talking about is the revolution in individuals, revolution of choices, priorities; revolution of
restrictions, revolution of behaviors, revolution of accent and language and selection of words
