Q1. Write about the life of Hazrat Umm e Habiba (R. A). Also discuss her love and respect for
the holy prophet pbuh.
Ans. Hazrat Umm e Habiba (R. A) s real name was Ramlah. She was the daughter of Abu
Sufyan. Abu Sufyan was the chief of the Quarshie clan of Banu Umayyah. She was born 17
years before the advent of Islam. Her first husband's name was Ubaidullah bin Jahsh. She
embraced Islam along with her husband. Both migrated to Abyssinia. Later her husband
converted to Christianity.
She was alone in Abyssinia, her husband left her but she showed steadfastness and firmness
throughout these testing times and her faith remained unshaken. at the end of iddat , the
prescribed period of the Holy Prophet pbuh sent her a proposal of marriage. King Negus enacted
the marriage ceremony in 6 A.H and paid 400 Dinars as dowry on behalf of the Holy Prophet
pbuh After this umm e Habiba R.A boarded a ship and reached Madinah. The Holy Prophet was
at that time in Khyber and joined her on his return. She died in A.H and was buried in Madinah.
she narrated 65 Hadis. She was a woman of great devotion, piety, courage and virtue. She
suffered a lot for the cause of her religion specially at the time when her husband deserted her in
a foreign land. She was very kind and considerate lady who always helped the poor and needy.
She a very pious lady and a number of traditions are narrated by her.
