Dream Classroom Reflection

In my bird’s eye view sketch of my dream classroom you will see tons of color. The color

is appropriate in the right places because I do not want to go overboard. You will also see that

my desk is purple. I have always had this idea of having a dark forest green or purple desk. I

remember when I was kid, I always thought that my teachers were boring, and they should be

fun like my art teacher’s desk. From that experience I have always wanted to have colored desk

and not a boring grey or dark brown desk. I had a great time trying to figure out what I wanted

in my dream classroom. I made sure in my classroom I had safety, success, belonging,

independence, fun, and valued purpose for my students.

To make sure my students have safety in my classroom we will have a class discussion

on expectations and rules. Then we will make a poster together to make our classroom rules

and hang it up in our classroom. I want to make sure my students will understand what is

expected from them. Also, I will have a map of the school that shows exits and the protocols

when certain lockdowns are happening. I also made sure my classroom is spaced out and the

exits are clear, so it is easy to get out of the room if need be.
When it comes to my student’s success you will see in my sketch that I have tons of

whiteboards and bulletin boards. The reason why is that I can post educational posters and

have plenty of room to post them. Right by the door is where student’s will turn in their

homework and that bulletin board will have the learning objectives for that day. It will also have

calendar on that bulletin board. I believe is to have that information there it will help my

students be organized and get mentally prepared for the day. On that table too is my supply

station because sometimes we forget our homework or lose it. For me to able to apply extra

worksheets, pencils, erasers etc. It will help my students achieve their daily tasks during that

day.

Belonging is huge philosophy of mine because I know what it feels like to be ignored by

plenty of teachers and coaches who don’t care about you. For me this is my philosophy and

how I implemented in my classroom is that we are a family. Therefore, I have my desks in a u-

shape because we belong together, and we are not just ducks in a row. We are individuals and

we will have differences, but we build each other up and we do NOT break each other down.

Also, I have tons of spots that provide were students can get together and do fun activities. I

have my “break space” with the manipulatives and toys which is a great space for students to

interact with each other. My favorite part of my room is having my alphabet rug in the middle

of the classroom because it is a place where we can come together and do our morning

meeting or just have a different spot to sit in.

With that brings my students independence and freedom of choice. I have their own

personal cubbies, so they have an extra spot to put extra personal stuff that they brought to

class. This is where I have different chairs in my classroom. I have bean bag chairs in my library
and have sensory chairs at my group table. Also, having that alphabet rug in the middle of the

student’s desks, so for work time students have a choice to sit at their desks or can chose the

rug or sensory chairs. Within that is the fun and enjoyment in where you would like to sit.

Bringing that color into the classroom is what brings that fun.

I have always wanted to do a Dr. Seuss themed room just because he is an amazing

author and his illustrations in his book are FUN! Especially if I am teaching a younger grade,

they will adore all the fun decorations and will be excited in to come to school. I have toys and

manipulatives by the break time rug because sometimes we all need breaks. I have never met

anybody adults and kids who have a bad day and just need a moment. Plus, giving that social

interactions for the students are huge because nowadays students do not have that as much as

I did when I was kid. Right by the door I have a display window and the bulletin board in the

back by the library is where student can display their work. Which I think is important to all

students because they can take ownership and be proud of their work. They will feel valued

purpose.

Overall, I am pretty sure my dream classroom will change over time by learning new

things through studies and mentors. This was a fun activity and it has given me an actual idea of

what classroom could potentially look like. I just know for sure is that I will make sure my

classroom will accommodate for all my students. To make my students feel safe, successful,

belonged, independent, and valued. Most importantly is to have fun because coming to school

should be fun and feel safe.
