Summary > 476.19 mm The simple bolted connections (Chapter 4) and welded connections (Chapter 5) are used for the load passing through the C.G. of the joint. However, in practice the load may be applied at an eccentricity from the joint inducing moments as well, Also for beam to column connections in buildings, in most of the situations, bending moment will always be there. In this chapter the design of con- nections subjected to eccentric loads, and axial Joad and bending moment have been described. In industrial buildings, where cranes are used, the load lifted has to be kept away from the face of the column due to fune- tional requirements and (o permit the move- ment of the crane girders have therefore to be kept away from the column profile indue- ing moment in the connections, Such types of connections are termed as bracket type connections. Both the two cases, when the moment is in-plane or out-of-plane of the connection are described. The elastic as well as ultimate load analyses have been dis- cussed. The difficulties in analysis of such connections with ultimate load analysis has also been discussed. ‘The beam-to-column connections in other situations in steel buildings are classed. The joints may be classified as flexible, rigid. or igid depending upon the moment-rota- tion characteristics of the joint. Design of seat connections, framed connections have been described in detail considering both the bolts and welds as mode of connection. Although. npossible to cover ail the situations of beams-to-column connections, but with the principles of analysis and design outlined in this chapter the joints can be designed in other situations too.
