I. Topic & General Goal 1st Amendment
II. Reference to PA or Standard - 5.1.C.D
Common Core Standards Evaluate state and federal powers based on
significant documents and other critical sources.
Standard - 5.2.12.A
Evaluate an individual's civil rights, responsibilities
and obligations in various contemporary governments.
III. Lesson Objectives The students will be able to state at least two of the
freedoms in the First Amendment.
The students will be able to give an example of where
we need more freedom and less freedom based from
the First Amendment.
IV. Materials Google Slides, Laptop, Speakers
V. A. Introduction The students will be asked to think about what
freedom means and be ready to interpret what the
Constitution means by specific rights.
B. Procedures The students will write notes on the guided notes
slides. This will include knowing the actual
amendment’s statement and how to interpret it. They
will write notes and engage in each part on how they
feel about it. This will include religion, speech, press,
assembly, and petition.
C. Differentiation Process: Guided notes given for periods 1,2,6,8 to
help aide students with this for an IEP as well as
keeping students engaged.
Content: All necessary information for the lesson is
written on the presentation so the students can be
able to use it as a reference.
D. Closure The students will be directed to think about what they
think needs more freedom or less freedom. They will
also be given time to write their answers down if time
allows.
VI. Assessment The students will write a paragraph on what they
believe from the first amendment should have more
freedom and what should be restricted.
VII. Modifications and/or Guided notes are required for multiple kids in periods
Accommodations 1,2,6,8.
Extra time for assignments has been given so the
student can ask questions and stay on track with the
class.

IX. Self-Evaluation The early classes did not want to engage as much as
the last ones which gave them a lot more time to work
on their paragraph. On the other hand, the last two
groups I feel learned a lot more and were engaged
enough to easily do their paragraph. This lesson
overall went well and I definitely would format it the
same.
