Subject: Apple Scab Management Plan Meeting

Good Afternoon Employees,

I hope this email finds you all well. I am writing this email in regard to the ongoing apple scab problem
that plagues farmers around the country as well as our own farm. Scientists are currently conducting
research on this disease but there are a few steps that are recommended for management. This
research is being done to help better inform growers all around the state and help boost the state
economy.

During my own current research, I have found there are limited chemical treatments that are available
and even fewer organic practices that are available. I have found that the best practices are planting
disease resistant varieties. As far as fungicides go, I have seen that copper-based fungicides are the most
effective in managing apple scab. For organic management, removing the dead leaves at the end of the
year seems to be the best solution to prevent over wintering.

I propose that we hold a company meeting on April 30, 2021. During this meeting we will discuss a plan
to attempt to control and slow down the disease. This meeting will be especially important for those
employees currently overseeing spraying and orchard management. I am sure that through your hard
work and dedication, we will be able to successfully control this problem. I look forward to seeing you all
on the 30th. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at nlhyder@clemson.edu.

Thank you in advance,

Best regards

Nathan Hyder
