Answer the following questions while watching the video…

1.) How did she get started with the activity? (3points)
She began by introducing the painting and giving them time (30 sec) to look at the
picture. She gave the direction to stay quiet and use your eyes to look.

2.) What kinds of questions did she ask, how did she follow up? (3 points)
What do you notice? What do you see that makes you think that? What else can we
find?

3.) What kinds of thinking strategies were practiced by the students? (3 points)
Making connections, problem solving, predicting and wondering. -Higher level
thinking skills

Now process what you just saw and discuss the following questions at your table…

4.) How could we connect this activity to the elements and principles? (5 points)
Having students observe and look for ways that the different elements and principles
were used in the piece of art. Or showing a piece that specifies a specific element/principle and
having students observe the piece and point out what parts help describe or make up the
element/principle.

5.) What kinds of follow up or next step activities could we do after something like this? (5
points)
Have students decide what they thought was most important about the piece that they
saw and make their own art that shows that. Another idea would be to group students based
off of the first few things they noticed to show that things can be seen from multiple
perspectives.
6.) Elementary Ed. how could this be used cross circularly? Art Ed. how could this transfer into a
project? (5 points)
In a history or science class, teachers could have students observe an artifact, chemical,
or other objects or pictures having to do with the subject, in math or English, showing students
a line from a book or an equation could work too. Teachers could show students the example,
have them look at it and note what they think of it then take turns talking about it after a short
amount of time.
