Teleworking Guidelines:

 Staff permitted to work from home must have defined, measurable tasks.
 Supervisors will be responsible to track and monitor work product and progress
 We will be setting up a call in protocol for employees who are telecommuting
o If staff cannot join the call, they must notify their supervisor.
 Staff working from home MUST web clock in and out each day.
 No overtime will be authorized for staff working from home unless ordered by the
Commissioner.
 Non-Managerial employees who are telecommuting must maintain their current City Time
Schedules.
 To be eligible to telecommute employees must have access to a computer and secure internet
access and telephone capability at home. Staff should provide a contact number where they can
be reached during telecommuting hours.

NOTE: BIT will be making VPN capacity available; employees can use their personal computer.

 If an employee is scheduled to telecommute but you need the employee to come in, the
employee must report to the office.
 Employees are expected to report for their normal hours in the office when required. Employees
must attend meetings, hearings etc. conducted by other governmental bodies unless that body
makes other arrangements. Examples include judicial proceedings, OATH hearings, settlement
conferences, NYCEM meetings, etc.
 Make sure that you have all direct contact information for each employee approved for
teleworking (i.e. home telephone number, work cell number)
 Employees must be accessible during scheduled teleworking hours and may be asked to report
to the office, attend meetings, participate on conference calls, etc.) on the day that they are
scheduled to telework
 If an employee is unable to webclock his/her working hours from the computer/laptop, it is the
employee’s responsibility to notify his/her supervisor/timekeeper of the hours worked, on the
day worked (by email or phone)
