Global warming is one of the biggest threats to our environment.

What problems are associated with

global warming and how could they be tackled on individual level?

The first step to fighting global warming on individual level, in my opinion is fully realizing that it is in
fact possible to do and even one person can contribute a lot to the planet. Most people believe the
opposite, that their personal doings will not make a difference. So the first step to actually making a
change is getting rid of that attitude and researching how one can help save the Earth.

The most effective thing that individuals can do is decreasing the use of non-recyclable materials and
replacing them with environmentally friendly or reusable ones. For example, instead of buying a plastic
bottle of water every day, we can buy a glass bottle or a hydro flask that will last us for years. So let’s say
if you use one glass bottle for five years, you, a single person, will be saving up to 1800 plastic bottles.

It is important to remember that reducing the demand automatically reduces the production, so the less
we use a specific material, the less the factories will produce. We can apply this method to saving up
electricity, for example. If we spare electricity and just turn off the lights that we don’t necessarily need,
we can result in less factory work, which means less air pollution.

Even though the previously mentioned methods are very effective, they do not bring any kind of
discomfort to our everyday lives and are easy to do. However, if we are willing to step out of comfort
zone to reduce environmental impact on planet, we can always turn to veganism. In fact, the
researchers from Oxford University found out that being vegan can decrease a person’s carbon footprint
up to 73%. The reason to this is that to make household animals (cows, chicken) more sellable, farmers
feed them extra crops, which need more potable water to be produced. Animal farms not only increase
water usage, but also take up a lot of space. In fact a huge amount of wild land is lost to agriculture,
which is a primary cause to wildlife extinction.
