SELF-AWARENESS AND VALUES FORMATION: PERSONAL ASSESSMENT OF

FILIPINO CORE VALUES

Values are vital part in everyone’s life. It is concerned about the way we do
things and it defines how we want to continue to live. Once we know who we are, it
allows us to figure out where we supposed to be.

I believe that core values are at the center of a person’s personality and in order
for us to live in a more meaningful life, it is important to know and honor our own
personal values. Once we know our core values, it begins to influence the choice and
decisions that we make in life, the person that we trust and align our personal space
with and the people who we choose to invest our time and energy. People who doesn’t
have core values are just doing things that needs to be done without a clear sense of
meaning and purpose, that is why it is really important to become more self-aware.
Becoming self-aware of who we are means that, we have a deeper understanding of
our core identity. These values and beliefs are the things that make up our character
which in turn influences our choices, actions and results in life. Knowing personal core
values is important as it helps a person in building the element of self-awareness in our
lives and help in making a decision on the way of living their life. One of the values that
is fundamental to me is integrity. It is always doing the right thing even when nobody is
looking and doing what you say you’re going to do. I like to align my career with this
core value. When we have integrity, we have the sense of being mature. As a firefighter
who go to a medical call scene on a daily basis and help a person in need of help.
When a person notices us, they want to see integrity, not a person who reflects
negativity towards others. As a firefighter, we serve and protect the community and help
so if one person in the community doesn’t think one particular firefighter has integrity,
they believe all fire fighters are just like him or her with no sense of morals, values, or
knowing right from wrong.

Knowing and living my core values will open the door to more inspiration in my
life. Core values is the key on how we consciously choose to show up in work,
relationship and in life. When we know our core values, it becomes easier for us to
make decisions, set boundaries, and our choices become a lot easier because we have
set of things that guides us. All of these define us that no matter what happens, no
matter what situation we are in, they don’t change.
