What was the British Residential system?

 In 1906, Residential system was introduced.


 The Residential System was introduced during the rule of Sultan Hashim Jalilul
Alam Aqamaddin (25th Sultan of Brunei).
 Britain ruled Brunei indirectly through the British Residential System.
 A resident was sent to Brunei as a representative of the British government.
 A resident job was to advise the Sultan on all matters except things that
involved Islam, and Malay customs and traditions.
