Faculty and student researchers of the university are encouraged to conduct studies that are
related and responsive to the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, it is suggested that researches
should be aligned to the themes where this current world situation is related.
The research focus and priorities are found in the university’s Research Agenda (REM
3.01) which include 16 themes.
Theme 1. Teacher Education (may include studies on the readiness of the faculty and students
on

and coping mechanism of the hotel and tourism industry during and post
pandemic period)
Theme 3. Management, Politics, and Governance (may include studies on the perception
and experiences of how the different levels of the government manage the
pandemic in a specific area or place)
Theme 5. Biological Sciences (may include specific study on the current pandemic
diseases)
Theme 8. Global Issues and Concerns (may include studies concerning local and/or
global issues and effects of the COVID 19 disease)
Theme 9. Health and Nutrition (may include studies related to the pandemic disease
itself)
Theme 10. Social Services (may include studies related to the delivery and/or availability
of the social services as experienced by the people during the pandemic
period)
Theme 14. Business and Entrepreneurship (may include studies on the actual
experiences and/or on coping mechanism of businesses during and post
pandemic period)
Theme 16. Media Communication, Technology and Culture (may include studies related
to the roles and use of communication and technology during the pandemic
period)
B. Conduct of Research
The conduct of research must still be consistent to the process discussed in the approved
Research Manual of the university, however, it was proposed that provisions enumerated below be
observed in order to address the special concerns of conducting researches during the pandemic
period.
1. Data gathering must be limited to the use of available online materials or paper and pencil
instruments. Face to face interview and the conduct of focus group discussion with the
respondents of the study are not allowed.
2. The academic services department and the faculty who will be handing research subjects
and thesis and dissertation writing both in the undergraduate and graduate levels
respectively must be responsible of ensuring the safety of the students enrolled in the
course.
C. Research Dissemination
2. Research Publication
On research publication either in-house or outside the university, the policies and
procedures discussed in the Research Manual (pls refer to REM 3.05, Version 1) will still
be in effect considering that the processes involved are all applicable and compliant with
the mandated protocols during the pandemic period.
The publication assistance of 100 dollars for each published paper will still be granted to
all faculty members regardless of the type of Journal (Scopus, ISI, ACI, or International
Refereed) where the paper will be published.
Attendance in trainings, workshops, fora and other research related capability building
activities to be held within and outside the country shall be fully discouraged and will not
be allowed for all faculty members, staff and students of the university both for
undergraduate and graduate levels during the pandemic period.
2. In Campus
Only small group sessions and meetings of the research staff of the university will still be
allowed on a manageable level with strict observance of the DOH protocol (physical
distancing, wearing of face mask by all the participants), however, the RDO shall
be responsible of ensuring that the conduct of such meetings are compliant with
the mandatory health protocols. Conferences and other big gatherings with participants
coming from outside of the university shall not be allowed.

3. On line Trainings
Faculty members, staff and students of the university will be encouraged to resort and
maximize participation in various trainings and capability building activities on research
that are available on line. These include participation in webinars, intellectual
discussions, teleconferences and links with professional organizations all over the world.
The Research and Development Office (RDO) shall spearhead in looking and arranging
for these activities, although faculty and students may initiate also at their own levels.
Verification of on-line seminars hosts and organizers shall be the responsibility of the RDO
and this will be required in order to ensure that these are legitimate and recognized.
Seminar on lines with fees will not be allowed.
E. Research Incentives
Research incentives specifically for research publication shall be given for research
publications in the following journals
1. All research papers published in Scopus, ISI/ACI and CHED Accredited journals and
the amount of the monetary incentive will still be the same as stipulated in the
Research Manual, however, the points for papers published in these journals will no
longer be counted in determining the Exemplary Research Involvement awardees also
with the corresponding monetary incentive based on the Research Manual.
2. Only two (2) publications in an International Refereed Journal will be given the
monetary incentive with the amount indicated in the Research Manual. The points for
these two (2) papers published in an International Refereed Journal shall no longer be
counted in the Faculty Research Involvement. Only those in excess of two (2)
research papers published in this type of journal shall form part in the computation of
the Faculty Research Involvement.
Items 1 and 2 under research incentives shall only apply in computing the points of
the faculty members for Dayaw Awards purposes, however, for the Faculty
Performance Evaluation System (FPES) rating, all research papers published in any
type of local and international refereed journals shall be counted.
1. Research-based study will be conducted by the Research Office on the status of the
Department of Education (DepEd) teachers of Tacloban City Division towards online learning
from which the results will be the basis of the Community and Extension Services Office on
the appropriate intervention to be given.
2. Research-based study will also be done by the Research Office on Information and
Educational Campaign (IEC) Materials for COVID-19 infection prevention and control
measures in health care and community settings. The IEC materials will then be

disseminated, broadly, and rapidly shared to the adopted barangays and other stakeholders
for greater awareness.
1. The extension office will strengthen the tie up with the Philippine Nurses Association for the
BESH (Basic education for Sanitation and Hygiene) Program.
2. The LNUCARES Extension program will continue the mass production of the face masks, face
shields, disinfectants, and antibac liquid soaps.
3. Activities of the extension office for next school year will continue provided that:
3.1The health measure protocols of the Department of Health will be followed which includes
strict physical distancing and wearing of face masks, face shields and gloves all
throughout the activity.
3.2Before the start of every activity, identification of symptomatic individuals will be done
through thermal scanning and those identified will not be allowed to attend and will be
advised to isolate themselves as a precautionary measure.
4. For the incentives, Best Extension Program and Best Extensionist will be still be given 15,000
pesos each.
This interim guideline does not repeal nor revoke the existing approved Research and Extension
Manual and the provisions included in this document are only intended and applicable during the
pandemic period in compliance with Republic Act 11469 or the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act”.
